The Office Chair is a Bit Off

Admin October 11, 2026

If your office chair is a bit off, you can try the following methods to solve the problem:

First, check the wheels. Place the chair upright and ensure that each wheel foot is in contact with the ground. If the chair is still off, turn it upside down to check for signs of damage on the wheel feet. The casters may bend or break due to uneven weight distribution, manufacturing defects, or general wear and tear. If damaged wheels are found, purchase a new set of matching wheels for replacement. You can contact the chair manufacturer for the model number to place an order, or take one of the old wheels to an office supplies store to find a matching replacement set, paying attention to matching the shape and size of the wheel axles. When removing the casters, hold the caster wheel with one hand and the bottom of the chair with the other hand and pull firmly. If it doesn't come out, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point and slowly move it back and forth as a lever. Pull it out about 1 centimeter and then pull again. In rare cases, the casters are fixed with screws, so use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and remove them. Apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD - 40) to each socket on the chair base. Insert the straw into the spray nozzle and insert it into each socket for a quick half-second spray. If you don't have a lubricant spray, apply a pea-sized amount of petroleum jelly to each wheel axle. Use a rubber mallet to tap each caster into the chair socket. Align the caster rod with the intended base, push it gently with your hand first. If it doesn't click into place, gently tap the caster with a rubber mallet until the rod is fully inserted into the base. Turn the chair upside down and sit on it to test the new wheels. If they roll smoothly and evenly and no longer tilt to one side, the job is done. If it still tilts, continue to check if the seat plate is damaged.

Second, adjust the hardware fasteners. Tighten the loose hardware with a screwdriver, which may solve many problems. Loose hardware fasteners can lead to an unstable chair structure, resulting in a tilt.

Third, contact after-sales service for repair. If the problem still exists after adjusting the hardware fasteners, contacting after-sales service for repair is a good option. After-sales personnel have professional knowledge and skills to accurately identify the problem and make repairs.

Finally, replace the chair. If the swivel chair has been used for a long time or the tilt problem cannot be completely solved, it is worth considering replacing it with a new one. A chair that has been used for a long time may have various aging problems, and the repair cost may be high with unsatisfactory results. In this case, replacing the chair is a more reasonable choice.
