Simple Office Chair Cleaning

Admin October 12, 2026

Cleaning a simple office chair requires separate handling of the wheels and the chair body, as detailed below:

Wheel Cleaning

  1. Hair Entanglement Handling If hair or fibers are stuck in the wheels, first turn the chair upside down (seat facing down) and gently pull out the wheel bracket by hand (most are designed with snap-on mechanisms, requiring no tools; if tightly stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry open the snap-on edge). Use tweezers to remove hair from the gaps along the direction of wheel rotation, preventing further entanglement.

  2. Dirt Cleaning Use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently brush the wheel surface and bearing gaps, removing dust and grease. Then rinse with water (be careful to avoid water entering the bearings), dry with a dry cloth, and ventilate for 10 minutes. Alternatively, wrap the wheels with a damp and air-dried face towel, secure with rubber bands, and move the chair back and forth to transfer dirt to the towel.

  3. Lubrication and Protection After drying, apply 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricant to the bearings and rotate the wheels to evenly distribute the oil. After repositioning, push the chair to test smoothness; if there is still stuttering, check for residual debris. To reduce cleaning frequency, you can stick invisible tape to the wheels (with moderate stickiness and almost no adhesive residue when removed), keeping it wrinkled to prevent the wheels from becoming too slippery.

Chair Body Cleaning

  1. Overall Wiping Wipe from top to bottom in the order of backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and chair legs, using a slightly damp cloth that does not drip water to avoid leaving water stains or causing moisture damage. If the chair body is made of leather or artificial leather, use a dedicated cleaner with a soft cloth; for plastic or metal materials, use a neutral cleaner to remove stains.

  2. Deep Cleaning (for Mesh Materials) Mesh office chairs require multi-step treatment:

  • Brushing: Gently brush surface dust with a soft-bristled brush to avoid damaging the mesh fibers.
  • Pretreatment: Spray neutral cleaner on stubborn stains and let sit for 5-10 minutes to soften them.
  • Spot Stain Treatment: Use a damp cloth dipped in cleaner to wipe locally, avoiding excessive force that could deform the mesh.
  • Water Circulation Cleaning: Use professional cleaning equipment (such as a handheld vacuum cleaner with a soft-bristled brush head) to rinse the mesh in cycles, thoroughly removing internal dirt.
  • Steam Deep Cleaning and Disinfection: Use a steam cleaner for high-temperature treatment of the mesh to kill bacteria and remove odors.

After cleaning, ensure the chair body is completely dry and avoid direct sunlight to prevent material aging. Regular cleaning can extend the lifespan of the office chair and maintain a hygienic environment.
