How to Adjust Office Chair: Settings & Tips
Adjusting an office chair requires personalized settings for parameters such as height, seat depth, backrest, and armrests based on height and sitting habits, while also paying attention to maintaining dynamic sitting postures and using auxiliary tools for comfortable and healthy support.

1. Adjusting Seat Height
Seat height is a core parameter affecting sitting posture. First, locate the control lever or knob beneath the seat. While seated, repeatedly press or rotate it to adjust the height. The ideal state is to have both feet flat on the ground, thighs parallel to the ground, and knees bent at a 90ยฐ angle. If adjusting from a standing position, ensure the front edge of the seat is slightly below the area beneath the kneecap, allowing the soles of the feet to naturally touch the ground when seated. Special Note: After adjustment, check if your line of sight is level with the top of the computer screen to avoid neck strain from looking down or up.
2. Adjusting Seat Depth
Seat depth directly affects thigh support and blood circulation. Adjust the front-to-back position using the sliding track or knob beneath the seat so that after your buttocks are fully seated, there is a 2-3 finger-width gap between the back of your knees and the front edge of the seat. This gap prevents the seat from compressing the blood vessels and nerves behind the thighs while ensuring the lower back can snugly fit against the backrest. If the seat lacks seat depth adjustment, you can indirectly improve it by adding a lumbar support or seat cushion.
3. Optimizing Backrest Support
The backrest should conform to the natural curve of the spine, especially the lumbar region. Prioritize chairs with independent lumbar support and adjust the support position using knobs or sliders to the most concave part of the waist. The recommended backrest angle is between 100ยฐ-110ยฐ, which can distribute the weight of the upper body while avoiding excessive reclining that can relax the core muscles. If the chair's backrest cannot lock the angle, regularly adjust your sitting posture to keep the muscles active.
4. Adjusting Armrest Height and Angle
The armrest height should allow the elbows to naturally bend at 90ยฐ, with the upper arms perpendicular to the torso. Adjust the height using the knobs or buttons beneath the armrests to ensure that when typing, the forearms are parallel to the desktop, reducing shoulder and neck muscle tension. If the armrests are too high, they will force the shoulders to rise; if too low, they will cause the arms to hang, both of which can lead to strain. Special Scenario Handling: When you need to get closer to the desktop for operations, temporarily lower or flip the armrests to avoid obstruction.
5. Auxiliary Tools and Dynamic Sitting Postures
If the seat height cannot be lowered to the ideal position, use an adjustable footrest to support the feet and keep the thighs parallel to the ground. For those who sit for long periods, change your sitting posture every 15-30 minutes, such as leaning forward, backward, or sideways, to promote blood circulation. Choosing a seat surface material with good breathability (such as mesh) can reduce stuffiness and lower the risk of skin diseases.
