Sea Freight Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

When shipping office chairs by sea, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the applicable situations, packaging requirements, booking procedures, and precautions, as detailed below:

1. Applicable Situations
Sea freight is suitable for bulk exports of office chairs, especially when the cargo volume is large, the volume is high, and the time requirements are ordinary, offering significant cost advantages. For example, Full Container Load (FCL) shipping can reduce unit freight costs and is suitable for large-scale purchases or long-term cooperation orders; while Less than Container Load (LCL) is suitable for small-batch replenishment, with charges based on volume or weight, providing greater flexibility.

2. Packaging Requirements

  • Disassembly Optimization: Packaging office chairs in their complete form can easily occupy space. It is recommended to disassemble components such as the backrest, seat, base, and legs, and package them independently. Reasonable stacking can improve container loading efficiency.
  • Impact Protection: During transportation, corners are prone to damage, and protective measures should be added according to the material. For example, metal frames can be wrapped with pearl cotton or foam; wooden components require corner protectors; plastic parts should be isolated with cardboard; the entire item should be wrapped with dust-proof film and secured to a pallet to prevent shifting.
  • Structural Reinforcement: For adjustable components (such as gas rods and armrests), they should be fixed to their initial positions and sealed with tape to prevent damage caused by loosening during transportation.

3. Booking Procedures

  • Selecting the Shipping Method: Decide between FCL or LCL based on cargo volume. FCL is suitable for shipments exceeding 15 cubic meters or weighing over 10 tons in a single batch; LCL is charged per cubic meter and is suitable for small batches.
  • Booking Steps:
    • Obtaining Quotes: Contact shipping companies such as Maersk and COSCO to compare freight rates, voyage durations (e.g., direct or transshipment routes to Penang Port, PEN), and services (such as whether they provide warehousing and customs clearance support).
    • Submitting Information: Provide details including the product name (office chairs), number of pieces, volume (length ร— width ร— height), weight, port of origin, destination port (Penang Port, Port Code: PEN), and estimated shipping date.
    • Confirming Space: After review by the shipping company, a bill of lading number will be assigned. It is necessary to confirm the cutoff times for documents and port entry to avoid delays.

4. Precautions

  • Shock and Pressure Prevention: Office chairs should be isolated from heavy cargo to prevent deformation caused by stacking. Dividers can be installed inside the container or inflatable bags can be used to fill gaps.
  • Cargo Insurance: It is recommended to purchase All Risks insurance to cover losses caused by collisions, moisture, etc., during transportation, especially for high-value or fragile materials (such as genuine leather or solid wood) office chairs.
  • Compliance: Confirm the quarantine requirements for wooden packaging at the destination port (e.g., Penang Port may require fumigation certificates) to avoid cargo detention.
