Disassembly of Roller Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

There are mainly three methods for disassembling roller office chairs, and you can choose the appropriate one based on the specific structure:

1. Disassembly of snap-button designed rollers This method is suitable for most rollers with snap-button structures and does not require special tools. First, turn the office chair upside down so that the seat faces downward. Be careful to operate on a soft surface or place a protective pad to avoid scratching the seat fabric. Hold both sides of the roller bracket with your hands and pull the roller out evenly with force. If the snap button is too tight due to long-term use, prepare a flat-head screwdriver. Wrap a soft cloth around the head of the screwdriver, insert it into the gap at the edge of the snap button, and gently pry to separate the snap button. Control the force during operation to avoid deforming the bracket or scratching its surface.

2. Disassembly using vise-grip pliers For cases where the wheel axle is stuck to the plastic part or the snap button is damaged, you can use pointed-nose vise-grip pliers to assist in the disassembly. After laying the chair down, use the vise-grip pliers to clamp the metal axle or plastic ring at the joint between the wheel and the chair. Use the edge of the joint as a fulcrum, pry and rotate the wheel counterclockwise at the same time. If the axle is still attached to the chair after the wheel is disassembled, readjust the position of the pliers' jaws, clamp the upper part of the remaining ring as a new fulcrum, and continue to apply force until the axle is completely detached. Wear protective gloves during operation to prevent metal fragments from scratching your fingers.

3. Disassembly using a flat-head screwdriver and a hammer This method is suitable for scenarios where the wheel axle is rusted or the snap button is severely aged. After laying the chair flat, align the flat-head screwdriver with the gap between the wheel and the bracket. Gently tap the tail of the screwdriver to loosen the wheel axle, and then switch to a hammer to gently tap the center of the wheel along the axial direction, using the impact force to separate the axle from the bracket. Keep the force vertical when tapping to avoid cracking the bracket due to lateral force. If the wheel still cannot be removed, drip a small amount of lubricating oil onto the contact surface between the axle and the bracket, wait for 5-10 minutes, and then repeat the operation.

Precautions:

  • It is recommended to take a photo of the original installation position of the rollers before disassembly for easy reference during subsequent assembly.
  • If the chair has a pneumatic rod, fix the pneumatic rod first to prevent accidental lifting or lowering before disassembling the rollers.
  • It is recommended to store the disassembled parts separately to avoid losing small components.
