Office Chair Wheel Suspension

Admin October 19, 2026

When the wheels of an office chair are suspended in the air and the wheels themselves are not damaged, it is usually due to damage to the components that fix the wheels.

Reasons for Wheel Suspension

The wheels of an office chair are fixed to the chair legs through specific components. If these components (such as clips, screws, or connecting shafts) are damaged due to long-term use, external impact, or aging, the wheels will not be able to be firmly connected, resulting in a suspended state. For example, a broken clip may separate the wheel from the chair leg, and a loose screw will lead to an unstable connection.

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance Methods

  1. Basic Cleaning Process

    • Invert the Chair for Positioning: Turn the office chair upside down so that the wheels are facing upwards for easy operation.
    • Remove the Wheels for Cleaning: If the wheels are detachable, gently pull them out or rotate them to remove them. Use a dry brush to remove dust, hair, and other debris from the gaps.
    • Wipe and Dry: Wipe the surface of the wheels with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, dip a small amount of neutral detergent or baking soda solution (mixed with water in a 1:1 ratio) and gently wipe. After cleaning, thoroughly dry the wheels to avoid rust or abnormal sliding caused by residual moisture.
    • Reinstall the Wheels: Ensure that the connecting components of the wheels and the chair legs are aligned, press or rotate firmly to fix them, and test whether the sliding is smooth.
  2. Cleaning Non-detachable Wheels

    • If the wheels cannot be removed, directly use a dry brush to clean the surface and gaps, and then wrap the wheels with a damp cloth and rotate to wipe. For stubborn stains, spray the neutral detergent on the damp cloth and avoid direct contact of the liquid with the internal mechanical structure of the wheels.
    • After cleaning, use a dry cloth to absorb the moisture or use a hairdryer on a low-temperature setting from a distance to dry it to prevent rusting of metal components.

Precautions

  • Avoid Using Corrosive Cleaners: Such as bleach, strong acids, or strong alkali solutions, which may damage the material of the wheels or the fixing components.
  • Regularly Check the Fixing Components: If the wheels are found to be loose or suspended, stop using them immediately, check whether the clips, screws, etc. are damaged, and replace new components if necessary.
  • Rust Prevention Treatment: Metal wheels are prone to rust when exposed to moisture for a long time. After cleaning, apply a small amount of lubricant or rust inhibitor to protect the connecting parts.

By regularly cleaning and maintaining, you can extend the service life of the office chair wheels and ensure safe and comfortable use.
