Office Chair Wheel Installation and Removal
Admin October 11, 2026
The installation and removal methods for office chair wheels should be selected based on the wheel type, with specific steps and precautions as follows:

I. Removal Methods
Snap-on Wheels
- Turn the office chair upside down (with the seat facing downwards), grasp the wheel bracket with your hand, and pull the wheel out evenly and forcefully. If the snap is tight, you can use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap to assist in removal, avoiding direct prying that could deform the bracket.
- Maintain hand stability during operation to prevent the wheel from suddenly popping out and causing injury.
Insert-rod Wheels
- Simply pull the wheel out vertically with force. If it cannot be pulled due to rust or being stuck, you can insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the bracket to pry, or use pliers to grip the rod and then lightly tap the end of the rod with a hammer to loosen the connection through vibration.
- Avoid using excessive force to prevent the rod from breaking or the bracket from being damaged.
Snap-ring Wheels
- Use your hand to gently press the wheel axle and pull it outward, utilizing the snap ring's recoil force to slide the wheel out; if the snap ring is tight, you can use a slender tool (such as the tip of a key or tweezers) to press against the inner side of the snap ring from the side while pulling the wheel down.
- Align with the snap ring position during operation to prevent the tool from slipping and scratching your hand.
II. Installation Methods
Insert-rod Wheels
- Align the forked rod of the wheel with the hole on the chair leg and press it down vertically until it is fully embedded, ensuring there is no wobbling between the wheel and the bracket.
Snap-on/Snap-ring Wheels
- Align the wheel with the snap or sleeve on the bracket and gently push it until you hear a "click" sound, confirming that the snap or snap ring is fully locked.
- After installation, gently shake the wheel to check if it is firmly fixed.
III. Precautions
- Avoid Hard Prying: When removing, do not use a screwdriver to directly pry at the seam between the wheel and the footrest to prevent scratching the plastic footrest or bending the snap ring.
- Rust Treatment: If the wheel is difficult to remove due to rust, you can first spray rust remover or lubricating oil and wait for 5-10 minutes before operating.
- Tool Selection: When using a screwdriver or pliers, pad it with a soft cloth or wrap it with tape to prevent damaging the wheel surface.
- Safe Operation: It is recommended to wear gloves when removing to prevent the wheel from popping out or the tool from slipping, which could cause hand injuries.
By following the above steps, you can efficiently complete the installation and removal of office chair wheels while extending the service life of the wheels and brackets.
