Office Chair Tilt Lock
Admin October 13, 2026
The operation of locking the tilt of an office chair depends on the type of locking mechanism, with common types and methods as follows:

I. Common Locking Mechanism Types and Operation Methods
Handle/Lever Lock (Most Common)
- Position: The adjustment handle is typically located on the right side beneath the seat and is made of plastic or metal.
- Operation: After sitting firmly, pull the handle backward (or upward) with your hand while slowly leaning back with your back; when you reach the desired angle, release the handle. A clicking sound indicates successful locking. To return to an upright position, pull the handle again, lean forward or sit up straight naturally, and the chair back will automatically rebound.
Knob Adjustment System (Common in Ergonomic Chairs)
- Position: The knob is located at the center bottom of the seat, near the support column.
- Functions:
- Tension Adjustment: Rotate clockwise to increase the resistance to leaning back (suitable for heavier individuals) and counterclockwise to decrease resistance (suitable for lighter individuals).
- Locking Function: Some models require rotating the knob to a specific position or โpulling out the knob to adjust the angle and then pressing it to lockโ. Refer to the product manual for specific instructions.
Push-Pull Button Type
- Position: The button may be set independently or integrated beside the handle.
- Operation: Pull the button outward to unlock the tilt function, adjust the angle, and then press the button inward to lock the current angle.
II. Troubleshooting and Solutions
If the chair still cannot be fixed or automatically rebounds after operation, follow these steps to troubleshoot:
- Loose Connections: Gently shake the chair back to check if the screws and bolts at the connections between the seat bottom and base, armrests and seat, etc., are loose. Tighten them one by one with a screwdriver.
- Stuck Locking Mechanism:
- Check if the handle or lever is fully returned to its position and operate it several times to ensure smooth movement.
- Observe whether there are any foreign objects stuck or deformation/damage to metal catches and other parts. Clean foreign objects or replace damaged components.
- Gas Lift Cylinder Issues: If the chair uses a gas lift cylinder and experiences slow sinking or inability to lock, it may be due to decreased sealing. Contact a professional for inspection or replacement of the gas lift cylinder.
Tip: It is recommended to read the product manual before operation to confirm the type of locking mechanism and specific operation steps to avoid damage caused by misoperation. If the issue is still not resolved, contact after-sales service or a professional repair technician for assistance.
