Office Chair Testing Standards
The testing standards for office chairs mainly include domestic and international standards, as detailed below:

Domestic Standards
In China, office chair testing primarily relies on the standard GB/T 14531-2017 for office furniture, specifically for reading tables, chairs, and stools. This standard provides detailed regulations on the quality requirements, testing methods, and packaging and storage requirements for office chairs. Notably, it introduces new testing methods for impact resistance and scratch resistance to more comprehensively evaluate the durability and safety of office chairs. These testing methods help ensure that office chairs can withstand a certain degree of external impact and friction during daily use, maintaining their appearance and functionality.
International Standards
Internationally, the European market has established detailed regulatory standards for office chairs, known as EN 1335. This standard consists of three parts:
EN 1335-1: This part primarily defines and standardizes the physical dimensions of finished chairs. It ensures that office chairs are designed and manufactured in accordance with ergonomic principles, providing a comfortable sitting experience.
EN 1335-2: This part outlines the safety performance testing requirements for finished office chairs. It defines the safety, strength, and durability requirements for all types of non-domestic seating, including office visitor chairs. Based on the assumption of a 110-kilogram person using the chair for 8 hours a day, this standard specifies safety performance requirements in terms of stability, static force, and durability. The main testing contents include: safety requirements, stability testing, seat and backrest strength testing, seat and backrest durability testing (260,000 cycles), armrest durability testing (60,000 cycles), armrest strength testing, and wheel rolling resistance testing. These tests ensure that office chairs do not pose a risk of injury to users during use.
EN 1335-3: This part specifies the testing methods and clarifies the testing sequence. It ensures the standardization and consistency of the testing process, making the test results comparable among different laboratories and testing institutions.
Together, these domestic and international standards form a comprehensive framework for office chair testing, providing strong guarantees for the quality and safety of office chairs.
