Round Modification of Office Chair
If you want to modify an office chair into a round shape, you can follow the steps below:

Dismantle the Old Chair
First, you need to dismantle the seat and legs of the office chair. During the dismantling process, be sure to draw a sketch of the original components, recording in detail the shape, position, and connection method of each part. At the same time, mark the order of the dismantled components so that they can be accurately restored during subsequent assembly. This step is crucial as it directly affects the smooth progress of the subsequent modification work.
Make the Seat
Next, you need to make a new round seat. Choose a wooden board of appropriate thickness, such as a 2.6cm thick oak board, which is both sturdy and easy to process. Determine the diameter of the new round seat according to your needs. For example, if the original iron seat has a diameter of about 30cm, the diameter of the new round seat can be appropriately increased to 32cm to increase comfort. Use a compass to draw a circle of the corresponding size on the wooden board, leaving a certain edge for subsequent polishing and installation. Then, use a jigsaw to cut along the line to create the round seat. If you don't have professional woodworking tools, you can also use a handsaw instead, but pay attention to the accuracy of the cutting. After cutting, use a sander to polish the seat to make its surface smooth and flat; if you don't have a sander, you can also use sandpaper for manual polishing.
Make the Backrest Panel (If Needed)
If you want the new chair to have a backrest, you also need to make a backrest panel. Use the edge material of the seat to piece together the backrest panel. First, use the round edge of the seat to draw the arc of the small backrest panel to ensure it matches the seat. The backrest panel needs to be made to a certain thickness, such as 5cm, and can be made by gluing multiple wooden boards together, for example, three 2.6cm thick wooden boards. After cutting the arc-shaped edge board, remove the wood chips on the surface, apply woodworking glue, and clamp it with woodworking clamps until the glue dries. Then, use a handsaw to cut out the shape of the small backrest panel and polish it with a sander or sandpaper to make its surface smooth. The small backrest panel can be fixed with an L-shaped steel plate, with one end fixed to the round seat with screws and the other end fixed to the small backrest panel. Choose a steel plate of appropriate size, such as 2.6cm wide, 0.33cm thick, and 29cm long. Then, use a vise to bend the steel plate at an appropriate position (such as 18cm) to form an L-shape, and drill two holes at both ends with a hand drill for fixing the screws.
Oil and Install
Finally, apply wood wax oil to the seat and the small backrest panel to protect the wood and increase its luster. After applying, polish it with sandpaper, and then apply and polish again, repeating this process about three times so that the wood wax oil fully penetrates the wood and forms a protective layer. After making the round wooden seat, the small backrest panel, and the fixing steel strip, assemble all the components according to the original installation order to complete the modification.
