Office Chair Puncture Accident

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair puncture accidents mainly refer to situations where the explosion of pneumatic lifting chairs causes injuries to users. These accidents are extremely harmful and require high attention.

Accident Hazards

When a pneumatic lifting chair explodes, it generates a large number of fragments. These fragments, like bullets, have a powerful impact force and can penetrate the human body, causing extremely serious injuries. For example, they may pierce through the flesh, resulting in large-scale trauma to the body; they may also embed a large number of foreign objects, increasing the difficulty and complexity of subsequent treatment. In specific cases, in 2007, Mr. Wu, a 68-year-old man in Yantai City, suffered severe injuries to his buttocks, legs, rectum, anal canal, and small intestine after the pneumatic lifting chair he was sitting on exploded; in 2009, a 14-year-old boy named Xiaogang in Jiaozhou, Shandong, had an explosion while adjusting the lifting of the pneumatic chair. The lifting rod penetrated into his body from the buttocks, injuring multiple blood vessels, and he eventually died due to excessive blood loss despite rescue efforts; in 2010, in a rented house in Dianqian, Huli District, Xiamen, a woman was injured by an exploding lifting chair, with small screw pads and other parts shooting into her body from the buttocks.

Explosion Causes

  • Poor quality of the pneumatic cylinder wall material: If the wall of the gas cylinder container is not strong enough or the material itself has defects, it cannot withstand the pressure generated by the internal gas pressure during normal use, leading to an explosion.
  • Inadequate sealing of the pneumatic chamber: If there is a problem with the inadequate sealing of the pneumatic chamber, the internal gas is prone to escape. When the gas escapes rapidly, it generates a powerful impact force, which in turn triggers an explosion.
  • Insufficient purity of nitrogen: Pneumatic lifting chairs usually use nitrogen as the filling gas. If the purity of nitrogen is insufficient, during the frequent lifting and lowering of the chair, the pressure inside the pneumatic chamber will gradually increase. When the pressure exceeds the limit that the pneumatic cylinder wall can withstand, an explosion will occur.
