Office Chair Lock and Recline
Admin October 11, 2026
The operation of locking and reclining an office chair is typically achieved through the backrest adjustment mechanism, with core steps including locating the adjustment component, unlocking and adjusting the angle, and confirming the locked state. Here are the specific methods:

1. Locate the Adjustment Button/Lever/Knob The position of the adjustment component varies depending on the chair design. Common locations include:
- Under the seat near the backrest connection: Usually a push-button or pull-lever, with some high-end models integrated into the armrest control panel.
- Side of the backrest or armrest: Commonly a knob switch, with some chairs featuring a pullable metal rod on the side.
- Right or left side under the seat: Some chairs are controlled by an adjustment lever. You need to squat down and observe the edge under the seat to find the operable component.
2. Unlock the Backrest and Adjust the Angle Choose the corresponding operation based on the type of adjustment component:
- Push-button: After sitting down, lean gently against the backrest, hold the armrest steady with both hands, press the button, and slowly lean back. The backrest will automatically tilt backward with your body weight (some may require manual force). After adjusting to the desired angle, push the button inward or keep it pressed to lock.
- Pull-lever: Use one hand to pull down the lever and hold it, lean back to the target angle, and then release the lever. The backrest will automatically lock; some chairs require manual angle adjustment before releasing the lever.
- Knob switch: Rotate the knob to the 'unlock' position (usually marked with an arrow or 'UNLOCK' label), lean back to adjust the angle, and then rotate the knob back to the 'lock' position (marked with 'LOCK' or a fixed scale).
- Adjustment lever under the seat: If the lever is located under the seat, first pull it out or press it down and then pull to unlock. Lean back to adjust the angle, and after reaching the desired position, push the lever back into place or listen for a 'click' sound to confirm locking.
3. Confirm the Locked State After adjustment, verify the locking effect:
- Try to push the backrest forward. If the backrest cannot move or only shakes slightly, it means it has been successfully locked.
- Some chairs are equipped with angle scales or gear indicators (such as 'office mode' and 'nap mode'). You can confirm whether the current angle meets your needs by observing the indicators.
Precautions:
- Maintain body balance during operation to avoid sudden force that may cause falls.
- If the adjustment component is stuck, check for foreign object blockage or insufficient lubrication. Do not force the operation.
- The operation logic of chairs from different brands and models may vary. It is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service for specific guidance.
