Office Chair Leather Covering Process
Admin October 17, 2026
The office chair leather covering process mainly includes seven steps: board making, cutting, padding (foam pressing), stitching (sewing), upholstering (fitting the seat), trimming, and installation (reinstalling the seat).

- Board Making: Conduct a detailed analysis and comparison based on the shape of the original seat to create boards of various sizes. This process requires high technical skills, as a set of seats usually needs to be assembled from dozens of boards. Once successfully made for the first time, the same model of seats does not require board making again, laying the foundation for subsequent processes.
- Cutting: Cut the entire piece of genuine leather into the corresponding shape according to the board pattern. This requires technicians to have profound technical skills, accurately select the leather surface, and cleverly match it with the board pattern to save costs and ensure optimal utilization of the leather. Different parts use leathers of different textures. For example, the best-quality leather from the cow's back is used for the seat back and cushion parts; lower-quality leather from the cow's belly and neck is used for the skirt of the seat or parts that are not easily visible. At the same time, attention should be paid to the stretching direction of the leather. Improper cutting direction may lead to unevenness after use.
- Padding (Foam Pressing): Add a layer of 12 to 15-millimeter-thick mesh-bottomed foam (super foam) to the inner side of the cut leather and firmly attach the foam to the leather by machine. This step enhances the elasticity of the leather and provides better support for subsequent production.
- Stitching (Sewing): Sew the prepared leather pieces together according to the predetermined positions. This is a technically demanding step. It is necessary to ensure that the topstitching is absolutely straight and check details such as whether the topstitching stitch spacing is uniform, whether the leather edges are exposed, whether there are frayed edges and loose threads, and whether the color of the thread matches that of the leather.
- Upholstering (Fitting the Seat): Fit the sewn genuine leather parts onto the seat and fix them to the seat using tools such as staples and clips. Then, perform preliminary shaping work such as manual patting and smoothing to ensure that the surface of the genuine leather seat is wrinkle-free. When upholstering, be careful to prevent the leather cover from tearing or scratching. The staples used to fix the leather cover should be rust-proof, and the distribution size and tightness of the staples should be consistent. When assembling the seat, the seam between the cushion and the backrest should be symmetrical and neat.
- Trimming: Further improve and adjust the genuine leather seat that has been upholstered to strive for a perfect effect and perform final detail finishing.
- Installation (Reinstalling the Seat): Reinstall the carefully made genuine leather seat according to the original layout and installation method. Conduct a comprehensive inspection to ensure that all aspects are in place and flawless before handing over the work.
