Office Chair Installation Method

Admin October 10, 2026

The installation method for an office chair mainly consists of the following steps, which should be carried out in sequence to ensure a stable and safe installation:

  1. Install the casters and chair base Install each caster into the corresponding holes on the chair base, ensuring that each caster is fully seated and not loose. Some chair bases are designed with a five-claw structure, requiring the installation of five casters. After installation, insert the gas lift vertically into the central hole of the chair base, ensuring that the bottom of the gas lift fits snugly against the base. The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the seat height, so it must be installed vertically to avoid instability during subsequent use.

  2. Secure the seat plate and seat Place the seat plate on the bottom of the seat, align the screw holes, and use the provided long screws (usually four) to secure the seat plate to the seat. Some tutorials mention that the seat plate should be installed beneath the seat cushion, so adjust the orientation according to the specific design. When tightening the screws, do so in stages and crosswise to prevent the seat plate from tilting due to unilateral force. The seat plate is a key component connecting the seat to the gas lift, so check for stability after installation.

  3. Connect the backrest and seat Choose the connection method based on the backrest design:

    • If the backrest and seat are connected via corner brackets, align the corner brackets with the screw holes on the backrest and seat, secure them with screws, and pay attention to the orientation (e.g., the black fabric side facing backward).
    • If the backrest needs to be inserted into a tray structure, align the backrest with the tray slots and gently press until fully seated, ensuring no gaps. After connection, shake the backrest to check for looseness, avoiding the risk of abnormal noise or breakage during subsequent use.
  4. Install the seat assembly onto the gas lift Lift the assembled seat and backrest vertically and align them with the top of the gas lift, then slowly press down to ensure the central hole of the seat fully fits over the gas lift. After installation, test the seat's height adjustment function to confirm that the gas lift works properly without jamming. If the seat tilts after installing the gas lift, readjust the position of the chair base or gas lift.

  5. Install the armrests and headrest

    • Armrest installation: Align the armrests with the mounting holes on both sides of the seat and secure them with the provided #3 screws (usually three per side). Some armrests require the installation of a bracket first, which is then connected to the seat with screws. Ensure the armrests remain level during installation to avoid uneven heights.
    • Headrest installation: Insert the headrest into the้ข„็•™ (pre-drilled) hole at the top of the backrest until you hear a โ€œclick,โ€ indicating it is properly installed. Some headrests require screw fixation, so adjust the angle according to the instructions.

Precautions: Use the provided tools (e.g., screwdriver, rubber mallet) during installation to avoid damaging parts with excessive force. Tighten all screws until they are secure but do not overtighten to prevent stripping. After installation, thoroughly inspect all component connections to ensure no looseness or omissions.
