Office Chair Fixing Methods

Admin October 22, 2026

Fixing an office chair mainly involves locking the tilt function, with the following specific operation steps:

1. Confirm Chair Functionality

Not all office chairs have a tilt-locking function. First, check the product manual or observe the chair's structure. If the chair is designed with adjustment handles, knobs, or push-pull buttons, it usually supports angle fixing; if it can only recline freely without a locking mechanism, fixing is not possible.

2. Check Safety Conditions

Place the chair on a stable surface and inspect key components such as the seat, base, and gas lift for any visible damage or looseness. For example, if the gas lift shows signs of air leakage, sinking, or unusual noises, it may affect the locking function; loose base screws can cause the backrest to wobble and need to be tightened in advance.

3. Locate the Locking Mechanism

Choose the corresponding operation method based on the chair type:

  • Handle/Lever Locking (Most Common): The adjustment handle is usually located on the right side under the seat and is a plastic or metal rod-like structure.
  • Knob Adjustment System (Common in Ergonomic Chairs): The knob is mostly located at the center bottom of the seat, near the support column. Some models require pulling out the knob before adjustment.
  • Push-Pull Button Type: The button may be set independently or integrated beside the handle and requires a push-pull action to unlock/lock.

4. Operate the Locking Mechanism

  • Handle/Lever Locking: After sitting firmly, pull back (or lift up) the handle while slowly reclining your back to the desired angle. Release the handle and hear a 'click' sound indicating successful locking; to return to an upright position, pull the handle again and lean forward, and the backrest will automatically rebound.
  • Knob Adjustment System: Turn clockwise to increase recline resistance and counterclockwise to decrease it; if the knob also serves as a locking function, rotate it to a specific position or pull it out, adjust the angle, and then press it down to lock, referring to the manual for details.
  • Push-Pull Button Type: Pull out the button to unlock the tilt function, adjust the angle, and then press the button inward to complete locking.

5. Troubleshoot Issues

If the chair cannot be fixed or automatically rebounds, check the following steps:

  1. Tighten all connecting screws (such as those between the seat and base, and between the armrests and seat).
  2. Ensure the locking handle or lever is fully returned to its position and operate it repeatedly to eliminate any jamming.
  3. Check metal clips and other parts for foreign objects or deformation damage.
  4. If the gas lift slowly sinks, it may be due to decreased sealing, and you need to contact after-sales service for replacement.
