Office Chair Height Adjustment
Admin October 10, 2026
Here are the methods for adjusting the height of an office chair:

I. Locate the Hand Control Device If seated, you can adjust the height by pulling up the control lever or turning the knob on the chair. For some models, you may need to try each lever one by one to determine its function, or refer directly to the user manual. If adjusting from a standing position, ensure that the front of the chair is positioned below your knees for precise control over the lifting range.
II. Adjust the Seat Height According to the Operating Method
- Regular Lever Operation:
- Move the seat to a comfortable position, adjusting the height in increments of a few inches (or centimeters) each time, and return the lever to its original position after adjustment.
- For some models, pull the lever upward to raise the seat and press it downward to lower it; for pneumatic models, achieve lifting and lowering by repeatedly pumping the lever (pushing it up and down).
- Standing-Assisted Adjustment: If it is difficult to adjust while seated, stand up and operate the lever, aligning the front of the chair with the area below your knees, and then control the lifting and lowering with the lever.
III. Adjustment Methods for Different Chair Types
- Armchair (with Air Rod):
- Lift the handle below the seat to compress the high-pressure gas inside the air rod, raising the seat;
- To lower the height, turn the handle upward while seated to prevent the air from rebounding, allowing the seat to descend naturally.
- Swivel Chair (with Fixed Screw): Loosen the screw at the bottom, adjust to the desired height, and then retighten it.
- Dual-Control Lever Model:
- There are up-and-down and left-and-right control levers below the seat. Sit on the chair, lift the handle to adjust the height, and release it to lock when satisfied.
- Dual-Handle Model: Determine which handle controls the height through experimentation (the other usually adjusts the backrest angle), and then operate the corresponding handle to complete the lifting and lowering.
IV. Adjustment Precautions
- Comply with Ergonomic Standards: Adjust according to your height and desk height to ensure that your eyes are level with the computer screen when seated, avoiding neck or eye fatigue.
- Control the Height Range: The seat height should be moderate. Too low can cause your body to sink into the chair, while too high may lead to eye fatigue. The national standard GB3326-1997 stipulates that the seat height should be between 400 and 440 millimeters, and most mainstream products on the market support free adjustment between 360 and 480 millimeters.
- Replace Faulty Chairs Promptly: If the chair is difficult to adjust due to aging or design issues, replace it with a new one to ensure work efficiency and health.
