Office Chair Formaldehyde Standard

Admin October 14, 2026

The formaldehyde standards for office chairs vary depending on different standard documents, with common formaldehyde emission standards being โ‰ค0.1mg/L and โ‰ค0.124mg/mยณ, among others.

Some projects require apartment chairs to comply with the GB18584โ€”2001 and GB/T 3324โ€”2024 standards, specifying that the formaldehyde emission should be โ‰ค0.1mg/L. This standard is relatively strict and imposes high requirements on controlling the formaldehyde emission of office chairs, aiming to safeguard the health and safety of users and reduce the potential harm that formaldehyde can cause to the human body, such as irritating the respiratory tract and triggering allergic reactions.

China's relevant standards, such as the "Classification of Formaldehyde Emission from Wood-based Panels and Their Products" (GB/T 39600 - 2021), have clear provisions for the panels used in qualified office desks and chairs. When using Eโ‚-grade panels, the formaldehyde emission should be โ‰ค0.124mg/mยณ; there are also eco-friendly panels like ENF-grade available for selection. When office chairs use panels that meet these standards and have well-executed edge sealing, the formaldehyde emission can usually be controlled within a safe range. Well-executed edge sealing can effectively prevent formaldehyde inside the panels from volatilizing into the air, further reducing the indoor formaldehyde concentration.

In addition, the national standard GB 18584โ€”2024 "Limit of Harmful Substances in Furniture" has broad applicability. It specifies the limit requirements and test methods for harmful substances in furniture and is applicable to the limit requirements and test result judgments of harmful substances in various furniture products, including formaldehyde. As a type of furniture, office chairs naturally need to comply with the relevant provisions regarding formaldehyde in this standard to ensure that the product quality meets safety standards and safeguard the rights and health of consumers.
