Office Chair Footrest Modification
There are various ways to modify the footrest of an office chair, and the appropriate method should be selected based on the type of chair and specific needs. Here are the details:

Ordinary Office Chairs
To convert an ordinary office chair into a mobile one, the main approach is to replace the casters. First, confirm the chair's structure. A five-star base is easy to modify, while a bow-shaped base may require an additional caster bracket, and some can be directly drilled. Measure the diameter of the original fixing holes on the footrest, the hole spacing, and the height from the footrest to the ground. Choose locking casters with a load-bearing capacity exceeding the combined weight of the chair and the person sitting on it. Select the material according to the floor type: nylon casters for hard floors and rubber casters for carpets. During modification, if the chair has foot pads fixed with screws at the bottom, use a wrench to unscrew and remove the foot pads. For a bow-shaped base without holes, use an electric drill to make holes. Install the casters by aligning the screws with the holes and tightening them. If using a caster bracket, fix the bracket first and then install the casters. After installation, push the chair to test its smoothness, check the brakes, and replace the casters if the height is not suitable. Note: Wear safety goggles when drilling. After installation, ensure the screws are tightened. For plastic footrests, confirm the load-bearing capacity. The unit price of casters ranges from 10 to 30 yuan each, and the total cost for 5 casters is 50 to 150 yuan. No professional tools are required.
Executive Chairs
A five-star footrest can be installed. With the help of a colleague, install the base under the chair and fix it with screws. Place the base closer to the center to prevent the chair from tipping forward or backward when sitting. After installation, the chair provides a comfortable sitting experience and can be moved and rotated freely. It is also suitable for leaning back slightly.
Upholstered Chairs
First, conduct an assessment of the current condition of the leg frames. Check for cracks in wooden leg frames, loose mortise-and-tenon joints, rust on metal leg frames, detached welds, and whether the upholstery is detached from the leg frames. Measure relevant dimensions and clarify the modification requirements. Then, prepare materials and tools, such as high-strength wood glue for reinforcement, high-density felt pads for wear resistance and protection, self-adhesive wood grain paper for appearance upgrades, locking casters for functional expansion, and measuring tapes. During modification, handle different structures for stability enhancement. For wear resistance and protection, attach felt or rubber pads to the bottom of flat leg frames, use silicone sleeves for round or irregularly shaped bottoms, and replace with locking casters for chairs that are frequently moved.

First, unscrew the reserved screws on the footrest, insert the footrest, and tighten the screws. Fix the angle iron on the footrest plate. Fix the other side of the angle iron on the footrest and insert the knob. Fix the armrests on the backrest and seat cushion. Fix the footrest on the seat cushion. Flip the armrests 90 degrees and adjust the height of the chair foot. If it is uneven, install foot pads to level it.
