Office Chair Foam

Admin October 13, 2026

Office chair foam is a sponge structural material used for making seat cushions and backrests of office chairs, with various types and characteristics.

In terms of production methods, office chair foam can be divided into molded foam, cut foam, and aggregated foam. Aggregated foam, also known as recycled foam, is made by high-temperature fermentation and hot pressing of waste materials from cut foam. Cut foam is sponge that has been cut and pasted into specific shapes. Molded foam is high-density sponge produced through mold opening and shaping, with a soft touch and a relatively smooth surface, made using the PU foaming molding process.

Regarding performance indicators, the hardness of foam is measured in degrees, with a range of 50 - 90, and the density is measured in kilograms per cubic meter, with a range of 18 - 50. Generally, the density and hardness of the seat foam of a chair are greater than those of the back foam. Moreover, the density affects the sitting durability of the chair type; the higher the density, the higher the sitting durability usually is. The hardness of the foam does not affect the price change of the chair type; only the density of the foam affects the price. For example, a foam with the number 1850 indicates a density of 18 kilograms per cubic meter and a hardness of 50 degrees.

The density of office chair foam commonly used by the company is generally above 30 kilograms per cubic meter. This type of foam has advantages such as good hand-feel elasticity, good durability, no odor, good tear strength, and resistance to deformation. At the same time, to ensure safety in use, it is generally required that the foam pass the California 117 fire safety test standard in the United States.

In addition, when importing foam for office chairs, it should be noted that if the declared imported foam is solid waste, it will violate customs supervision regulations.
