Office Chair Filling Materials
Common filling materials for office chairs include foam, latex or memory foam, coir, coconut coir, and 3D materials. Details are as follows:

Foam, latex, or memory foam: These materials are the mainstream choices for office chair filling, directly affecting the pressure dispersion of the seat and backrest. Foam adjusts its hardness through density differences; high-density foam offers strong support and durability, suitable for long-term office use. Latex is naturally mite-resistant and breathable, conforming to the body's curves. Memory foam is renowned for its slow rebound properties, evenly distributing body pressure based on body temperature and pressure to alleviate fatigue from prolonged sitting. For enhanced lumbar support, a composite structure of coir and memory foam can be used, balancing support and comfort. For cost-effectiveness, high-density foam paired with a breathable mesh layer is a common combination.
Coir: Woven from natural coir fibers, it has medium hardness and excellent breathability. Its support is superior to coconut coir, and its dense fiber structure is resistant to mold, suitable for scenarios requiring strong lumbar support, such as for individuals with lumbar spine conditions or those who work at a desk for extended periods. The natural properties of coir also meet environmental needs, but care should be taken to avoid contact with sharp objects to prevent fiber breakage.
Coconut coir: Formed by pressing coconut husk fibers, it has high hardness and low cost, suitable for users with limited budgets or those who prefer hard support. When choosing, priority should be given to confirming the environmental friendliness of the glue used; coconut coir without added formaldehyde is safer. Its breathability is superior to ordinary foam, but long-term use may lead to a decrease in support due to fiber loosening, requiring regular inspection of the filling layer.
3D materials: Utilizing a three-dimensional weaving process with polymer fibers, they form a three-dimensional mesh structure. Their core advantage lies in breathability, allowing air to circulate freely, effectively reducing a stuffy feeling, especially suitable for summer or high-temperature environments. At the same time, the material has excellent resilience, maintaining its shape after prolonged sitting, and is lightweight and easy to clean and maintain. Some high-end models use it on the backrest or seat surface, combined with materials like foam.
It should be noted that if the office chair incorporates a massage function, space must be reserved inside the backrest for the motor and transmission components, which may limit the thickness and fit of the filling material. In this case, priority should be given to ensuring the stability of the mechanical structure, and then balancing comfort through material optimization.
