Office Chair Fabric Technology

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chair fabric technology covers various aspects such as mesh fabric, leather surface, and fabric at the bottom of the chair, with different materials and processes having their own characteristics.

Mesh Fabric Technology

  • Material and Characteristics: Office chair mesh fabric is mostly made of polyester fiber or nylon, with some high-end products incorporating elastic fibers. It has excellent breathability, with a porous structure promoting air circulation, preventing stuffiness during long sitting. It offers elastic support, with high-elastic mesh fabric conforming to the body's curves and distributing pressure. It is highly durable, with high-quality mesh fabric undergoing anti-tear treatment, capable of bearing loads of over 150kg. Most mesh fabrics can be wiped with a damp cloth, and some have anti-fouling coatings.
  • Weaving Process and Structure: The mainstream weaving methods are tricot and raschel. Tricot has a stable structure, is not prone to unraveling, and has controllable elasticity. Good tricot mesh fabric can use yarns of different thicknesses to achieve zoned support. The structural types include single-layer and double-layer composite mesh fabric. Single-layer mesh fabric has a low cost but weak support, while double-layer composite mesh fabric balances comfort and support.
  • Density: Mesh fabric adopts warp and weft or 3D three-dimensional weaving processes, with a density usually ranging from 200 - 300D. For high-intensity use, mesh fabric with a high density (above 300D) and anti-slip silicone dots is required.

Leather Surface Technology Highlights

  • Material Selection: Common leather surface materials include genuine leather, ordinary PU leather or PVC leather, and microfiber. Genuine leather has a good texture but is expensive, afraid of water and sunlight, and requires regular maintenance. Ordinary PU leather or PVC leather is cheap but has poor aging resistance and is prone to cracking and peeling. Microfiber is a high-end category of synthetic leather, being wear-resistant, hydrolysis-resistant, and having better breathability than ordinary synthetic leather, with high cost-effectiveness.
  • Purchase Considerations: First, look at the wear resistance and hydrolysis resistance indicators, which determine the service life of the chair. Second, smell the odor; inferior materials have a pungent smell. Third, check the details; neat stitching and thick fabric reflect the quality of the materials used.

Fabric Technology at the Bottom of the Chair

  • Non-woven Fabric: It is formed by high-temperature pressing of polyester or polypropylene fibers. It is cheap, breathable, and can be naturally degraded, but it is prone to shedding after three to five years of use.
  • High-density Polyester: It is tightly woven, with a weight of over 100 grams per square meter. It is resistant to wear, does not deform under pulling, and does not get moldy when damp. It is suitable for rooms with underfloor heating and in the rainy season in southern China. High-end chairs often use it. Black polyester is dirt-resistant, has firm dyeing, and is not prone to fading.
