Office Chair Drawing

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair drawing can be achieved through two common methods: simple sketches or CAD three-view drawings. Here are the specific methods:

I. Drawing Method for Simple Sketch of Office Chairs

Simple sketches use concise lines to summarize the shape of objects, making them suitable for quickly representing the basic structure of office chairs.

  1. Outline Positioning: First, use light lines to draw the general outline of the office chair, including the relative positions of the backrest, seat, armrests, and legs. The backrest is usually rectangular or trapezoidal, the seat is a slightly wider rectangle, the armrests can be simplified to short horizontal lines, and the legs are four vertical short lines.
  2. Detail Addition: Add key details based on the outline. A horizontal dividing line can be added to the backrest to indicate the position of the cushion. An arc can be drawn below the seat to simulate the curvature of the seat edge. If the armrests are curved, they should be represented with smooth curves. Small horizontal lines can be added at the bottom of the legs to indicate casters or support feet.
  3. Line Adjustment: Erase the auxiliary lines and outline the final shape with thicker lines, ensuring the lines are concise and smooth, avoiding excessive embellishments.

II. Method for Drawing Three-View Drawings of Office Chairs in CAD

CAD (Computer-Aided Design) can accurately draw engineering drawings of office chairs, mastering furniture design skills.

  1. Front View Drawing:
    • Determine the scale (e.g., 1:10) and use the line command to draw the outer outline of the backrest and seat. The height of the backrest is usually 1.2-1.5 times the height of the seat, and the width of the seat is set according to ergonomic principles (e.g., 40-50cm).
    • Add details: Two parallel lines can be drawn on the backrest to indicate the thickness of the cushion. An arc can be drawn below the seat to simulate the curvature of the seat edge. If the backrest has an inclination angle, the 'rotate' or 'oblique line' command should be used to adjust it.
  2. Top View Drawing:
    • Observe from below the front view and draw the top shapes of the backrest and seat. The backrest is usually rectangular or trapezoidal, the seat is a slightly wider rectangle, and the armrests are two parallel short lines.
    • Mark dimensions: Use the 'dimension' tool to mark key data such as the width of the backrest and the length of the seat, ensuring correspondence with the front view.
  3. Side View Drawing:
    • Observe from the right side of the front view and draw the side shapes of the backrest, seat, and legs. The legs are usually four vertical short lines. If casters are present, the arc command should be used to draw the caster outlines.
    • Check the scale: Ensure that the scale of the side view is consistent with that of the front and top views to avoid visual errors.

Precautions: Simple sketches are suitable for quick recording or teaching demonstrations, while CAD three-view drawings are used for precise design or manufacturing. When drawing, ergonomic data (such as a seat height of 45-50cm and a backrest inclination angle of 100-110ยฐ) should be incorporated to ensure the comfort and practicality of the office chair.
