Office Chair Cylinder Replacement

Admin October 10, 2026

The following methods can be referred to for the replacement of the office chair cylinder and the handling of the issue of the cylinder's inflation and rebound:

Office Chair Cylinder Removal Methods

  • Method 1: Shaking and Lifting Method
Raise the chair to its highest position and have two people cooperate: one person steps on the footrest to secure it, while the other person vigorously shakes the seat cushion from side to side and lifts it upwards. If the effect is not satisfactory, you can invert the chair and suspend it in the air. Two people hold the footrest and use a hammer to alternately strike the metal part of the chassis (strike evenly from front to back, left to right), using the vibration to separate the cylinder from the seat and the footrest.

  • Method 2: Pipe Wrench Removal Method
If the above method is ineffective, a pipe wrench is required:

  1. Separate the cylinder from the seat: Use the pipe wrench to secure the upper part of the cylinder and rotate it counterclockwise to separate it from the seat.
  2. Separate the cylinder from the footrest: If directly rotating the lower part fails, you can turn the footrest to a secluded place and use the pipe wrench to strike the bottom of the cylinder, using the impact force to separate the two.
Note: Wear protective gloves during operation to avoid cuts from metal debris; strike with moderate force to prevent damage to the footrest structure.

Handling of Cylinder Inflation and Rebound Issues

If the cylinder rebounds during inflation, it indicates that the internal air valve is damaged and needs to be repaired according to the following steps:

  1. Disassemble the cylinder: Use a screwdriver or wrench to disassemble the cylinder housing and expose the internal structure.
  2. Inspect the air valve components: Focus on inspecting the key components of the air valve (such as plastic balls and springs). If any damage or displacement is found, replace or reposition them.
  3. Reassemble the air valve: After returning the plastic balls and other components to their original positions, wrap wire around the core area of the air valve (such as the air inlet) to ensure that the wire is tightened to prevent gas backflow.
  4. Test the function: After assembly, manually press the cylinder to test the rebound situation. If the problem is resolved, reinstall it on the chair; if it still rebounds, check the cylinder's airtightness or replace it with a new one.

Safety Tips: Turn off the cylinder's lifting and lowering switch (if any) before operation to avoid accidental triggering; if the cylinder is severely aged, it is recommended to directly replace it with a new one instead of repairing the cylinder alone to ensure safety in use.
