Office Chair Charging Methods
The charging method for office chairs depends on their power system design, mainly divided into two types: purely plug-in models and dual-purpose (plug-in and charging) models, as detailed below:

I. Purely Plug-in Models: No Charging Required, Direct Power Supply
These office chairs use 220V mains electricity as their energy source, achieving continuous power supply through hidden wires connected to sockets. Their core feature is the absence of built-in batteries, with the power system entirely reliant on external power. These products typically come equipped with manual adjustment buttons, allowing for the adjustment of the seat's basic height (such as the physical locking function of the lifting rod) through mechanical structures even in the event of a sudden power outage. Due to the lack of a charging process, their maintenance costs are lower, and there are no issues with battery aging, making them the preferred choice for mainstream office furniture brands, especially for fixed workstation scenarios. It should be noted that although some products are equipped with USB ports, these are only for powering devices such as mobile phones, and the chair itself still needs to be connected to a power cord.
II. Dual-purpose (Plug-in and Charging) Models: Lithium Battery Power Supply, Require Regular Charging
High-end electric office chairs may be equipped with lithium battery packs, forming a dual-mode power supply system of "plug-in and charging." Their charging ports are usually hidden on the side of the seat or at the edge of the base, and the product details page will clearly indicate "charging function." These products account for less than 15% of the market. When purchasing, it is necessary to confirm the battery capacity (such as mAh value) and charging time through the technical parameter table in the instruction manual. The advantage of lithium battery models is that they are free from cable constraints, suitable for mobile office scenarios, but require regular charging (typically providing 8-12 hours of battery life on a full charge). When left idle for long periods, it is recommended to maintain the battery level at around 50% to slow down battery capacity degradation. Be cautious of some low-priced products that may use inferior batteries, posing safety risks.
III. Key Considerations
- USB Port โ Charging Function: If a product only advertises "USB power supply," it usually refers to an extended charging port, and the chair itself still needs to be plugged in for use.
- Battery Maintenance: Lithium battery models should avoid overcharging and over-discharging (it is recommended to charge when the battery level is below 20% and stop when it is above 95%), and the storage environment temperature should be controlled between 0-40โ.
- Safety Certification: Choose products that have passed 3C certification to ensure that components such as power cords and charging ports comply with national safety standards, reducing the risk of electric leakage.
Mainstream brands tend to favor wired power supply designs, primarily because lithium batteries require regular replacement (usually every 3-5 years) and have high recycling and disposal costs. If mobility is required, it is recommended to prioritize lithium battery models that support fast charging technology and retain the original packaging for subsequent maintenance.
