Office Chair Caster Components
Admin October 11, 2026
Office chair caster components come in a variety of types, and their installation methods vary depending on the design.

Office chair caster components are crucial for enhancing the mobility and flexibility of chairs, with their types and installation methods directly affecting the user experience. Based on functional and design differences, common types include:
- Classification by Size and Structure:
- 1.4-inch Load-Bearing Casters with Snap Ring and Threaded Universal Wheels: These have a smaller diameter, suitable for lightweight office chairs. They are connected to the chair legs via a snap ring and threaded connection, offering easy installation and stable load-bearing capacity.
- 2-inch Insert Rod Flat Plate Casters: These feature an insert rod design, allowing direct insertion into the flat plate holes of the chair legs without the need for additional tools, making them ideal for scenarios requiring quick replacement.
- 1-2 Inch Universal Casters for Furniture, Desks, and Cabinets with Threaded Rod Brakes: These have a wide size range and are equipped with threaded rods and brake functions, enabling the chair to be fixed in position, suitable for office environments requiring temporary positioning.
- Classification by Material and Purpose:
- PP Wheels/Nylon Wheels: Made of plastic or nylon, these wheels are lightweight and produce low noise, suitable for wooden or tiled floors, but have relatively weaker wear resistance.
- Wear-Resistant Casters with Universal Wheels: These enhance surface hardness through special processes, extending their service life, and are suitable for high-frequency movement or heavy-load bearing scenarios.
Installation methods should be adjusted according to the component design:
- Snap Ring Installation: Some casters, such as the 1.4-inch load-bearing casters, rely on snap rings for fixation. The snap ring needs to be inserted into the corresponding hole of the chair leg and tightened through elastic deformation to ensure a secure connection between the caster and the chair leg.
- Insert Rod/Threaded Installation: Insert rod casters are directly inserted into the holes of the chair legs, while threaded casters require rotation for tightening. The operation is simple, but attention should be paid to size matching to avoid looseness.
- Combination Installation: Taking the T37 hollow model as an example, installation requires several steps:
- Point the arrow on the tray towards the front of the seat cushion to ensure the correct direction.
- Align the holes of the seat cushion with the protrusions of the backrest and snap them into place.
- Install the connecting parts between the tray, backrest, and seat cushion.
- Finally, assemble the chair legs with the chair body, with some casters needing to be installed simultaneously in this step.
Selection and Maintenance Recommendations:
- Choose the appropriate type based on the floor material (e.g., larger wheels for carpets) and usage frequency (wear-resistant wheels for high-frequency movement).
- Regularly check if the snap rings or threads are loose to prevent the casters from falling off.
- Avoid using corrosive liquids during cleaning to prevent material aging.
