Office Chair Bottom Fixation

Admin October 12, 2026

The installation steps for fixing the bottom of an office chair and the repair methods for a sinking cylinder are as follows:

Installation Steps for Fixing the Bottom of an Office Chair

  1. Install Chair Wheels
Insert each chair wheel into the assembly holes of the five-claw base one by one, then flip the five-claw base to place it steadily. Some installation instructions emphasize completing the assembly of all five wheels first to ensure a secure connection between the wheels and the base.

  2. Install the Pneumatic Rod
Align the thicker end of the pneumatic rod with the center hole of the five-claw base, insert it vertically, and confirm that it is properly seated. Pay attention to the direction of the pneumatic rod in this step to avoid abnormal use due to tilting.

  3. Fix the Base and Seat Cushion
Place the base under the seat cushion, adjust its orientation according to the markings on the base, align it with the four screw holes, and then use B screws (or long screws) to screw each one in 3-4 turns for preliminary fixation, followed by tightening all the screws in sequence. Ensure that the screws are tightened evenly to prevent the base from loosening.

  4. Connect the Seat Cushion and Pneumatic Rod
Align the assembled seat cushion with the top of the pneumatic rod and insert it vertically into the hole in the base until it is fully seated. Keep the seat cushion steady during insertion to avoid damaging the pneumatic rod due to uneven force.

Repair Methods for a Sinking Office Chair Cylinder

  1. Repair Using a Hose Clamp

    • Preparation Stage: Slide down the plastic skirt around the cylinder and adjust the chair to the desired height. If the chair cannot stand upright, lay it on its side or remove the skirt for easier operation.
    • Enhance Grip: Wrap rubber bands, tape, or sand the outer wall of the cylinder with sandpaper to increase the friction of the hose clamp.
    • Install the Clamp: Wrap the hose clamp around the cylinder, tighten it initially, adjust the chair height to the correct position, tighten the clamp again, and test its stability. If there is a height deviation, adjust the position of the clamp slightly.
  2. Repair Using PVC Pipe

    • Measurement and Material Selection: Measure the diameter of the cylinder and its length at the desired height, and select a PVC pipe with the same or slightly larger diameter (such as a 1.5-inch universal model).
    • Cut the Pipe: Secure the PVC pipe in a vise and cut it lengthwise on one side with a hacksaw or reciprocating saw (wear a mask to prevent dust during cutting) to form a snap-on structure.
    • Install the Pipe: Slide the cut PVC pipe over the cylinder, ensuring that the cut side clamps tightly around the cylinder to prevent the chair from sliding down due to gravity. This method is suitable for temporary repairs or low-cost solutions.

Precautions: Before repairing, confirm that the cylinder has no air leaks or structural damage. If the problem persists, it is recommended to replace it with a professional cylinder assembly. Avoid using excessive force during operation to prevent damage to other parts of the chair.
