Office Chair Battery Installation

Admin October 10, 2026

An office chair can be retrofitted with a battery through a specific modification plan to achieve electric functionality, but it must be done carefully to ensure safety. Currently, a publicly available feasible case mainly refers to the modification of the co-pilot seat of the Xiaopeng X9 into an electric office chair. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

I. Material Preparation

  1. Core Components:

    • 12V Lithium Battery: It is recommended to choose a polymer lithium battery with a capacity of โ‰ฅ5000mAh (such as the Deli Pu 12V 5000mAh model). A larger capacity reduces the frequency of charging, but it is necessary to balance volume and weight.
    • Electric Drive Module: A motor and control circuit that are compatible with the forward and backward movement function of the seat are required. This can be achieved by disassembling an existing electric seat or purchasing a universal module.
    • Structural Components: Custom aluminum plates (for fixing the battery to the seat), M8 screws with nuts (for connecting the brackets), adjustable armrests (for enhanced comfort), and an office chair base with wheels (for mobility).
    • Connectors: Domestic automotive wire harness plug connectors (male) and corresponding DC female connectors for safely connecting the battery to the motor circuit.
  2. Tools: Screwdriver bits, a multimeter (for testing circuits), insulating tape (for protecting circuits), etc.

II. Power Installation and Circuit Connection

  1. Battery Fixing: Fix the lithium battery to the bottom or side of the seat using an aluminum plate, ensuring a stable center of gravity and avoiding obstruction of the wheels.
  2. Circuit Connection:
    • Connect the positive and negative wires of the wire harness male connector to the DC female connector port, and then connect the battery male connector through the DC female connector to form a power supply circuit.
    • Key Test: Use a multimeter to confirm that the voltage is stable (12V ยฑ 0.5V), and manually test the electric forward and backward movement function of the seat to ensure that the motor runs smoothly without stuttering or abnormal noises.

III. Structural Assembly and Debugging

  1. Bracket Installation: Fix the armrests and the square bracket base to the aluminum plate in sequence, ensuring that the screws are tightened and there is no looseness.
  2. Seat Fixing: Connect the original office chair seat surface to the aluminum plate with bolts, paying attention to aligning the center points to avoid offset.
  3. Wheel Installation: Assemble the base with wheels to the bracket, test the smoothness of movement, and adjust the wheel angle or lubricate the bearings if necessary.

IV. Precautions

  1. Safety:
    • The battery must be a product that complies with 3C certification. Avoid using inferior lithium batteries to prevent the risk of short circuits or explosions.
    • The circuit connection points must be wrapped with insulating tape to prevent metal parts from being exposed and causing electric shock.
  2. Professionalism: If you lack knowledge of circuits, it is recommended to have the operation carried out by a professional to avoid misconnecting the positive and negative poles or damaging the motor.
  3. Compliance: The modified seat must comply with office furniture safety standards (such as load-bearing and stability tests) to avoid usage risks caused by structural modifications.

Summary: Retrofitting an office chair with a battery requires a combination of electric drive modules and structural modifications. The core steps include material selection, circuit connection, structural assembly, and safety testing. Ordinary users can refer to existing cases and proceed step by step, but they must be cautious when it comes to the circuit part and prioritize ensuring usage safety.
