Office Chair Backrest Teaching
Admin October 10, 2026
The adjustment of an office chair backrest mainly includes angle, height, and other related adjustments. Here is a detailed guide:

Angle Adjustment
- Basic Recline Adjustment: The angle adjustment mechanism of most office chairs is located on the side of the seat, usually on the right-hand side. Locate the knob or lever, and gently pull or twist it to allow the backrest to recline backward. During the adjustment process, try different angles to find the one that best fits the curve of your back and keeps you comfortable while sitting.
- Recline Angle Locking Function: Some office chairs are equipped with a recline angle locking function. There is a control lever on the right side of the seat cushion. Pull it out, and the chair can recline freely. Once you find your preferred angle, gently push the control lever to lock it in place. To return to an upright position, first pull the control lever outward while giving your back a push to straighten the chair, and then push the lever back in to lock it.
Height Adjustment
Some chairs have a fixed backrest height, while many high-end chairs allow the backrest to move up and down. To adjust, there is usually a control lever on the back or side of the backrest. Pull up this lever to move the backrest up or down. Adjust it to a position where both your lower back and upper back are supported, which can effectively reduce pressure on your lower back and upper back and improve sitting comfort.
Other Related Adjustments
- Angle Fixing and Restoration: Sit on the computer chair and locate the adjustment handle, usually on the right-hand side of the seat. Pull the handle, lean back slightly with your back, and release the handle to fix the angle. To return to an upright position, continue pulling the handle and apply a little force with your back, and the chair back will spring back. The lever for flattening the backrest is usually also located under the right armrest.
- Adjustment of Forward and Backward Swing Amplitude: Some office chairs allow you to adjust the forward and backward swing amplitude by rotating the thick black cylinder in front of the chair's gas lift left or right.
- Functions of Different Recline Angles: When the backrest and seat cushion are at a 90ยฐ right angle, it keeps your body upright and puts you in a natural and relaxed state. Having your back in contact with the backrest of the computer chair can protect your lumbar and cervical vertebrae. At 100ยฐ, you are in a slightly relaxed non-working state, suitable for surfing the Internet, watching movies, or playing casual games, and it can also protect your eyesight. Adjusting to 125ยฐ can be used for a short nap. Some computer chairs can recline up to 155ยฐ, putting your body almost in a lying-down position, which can be used for deep sleep. However, it is generally not recommended to use this angle for daily use. If you need deep sleep, choosing a 180ยฐ flat-lying position is more comfortable.
