Office Chair Backrest Locking Methods

Admin October 10, 2026

The methods for locking the backrest of an office chair vary depending on the type of chair. Here are the locking operations for common types of office chairs:

Common Swivel Chairs: These usually feature an in-situ locking chassis design, with the operating component being a handle on the right-hand side. To lock the backrest, push the handle to the left, at which point the backrest angle becomes fixed and cannot be freely adjusted; to unlock, pull the handle to the right, and the backrest returns to an adjustable state. This design directly restricts the rotation of the chair back through a mechanical structure, offering simple and intuitive operation suitable for scenarios requiring quick switching of sitting postures.

Ergonomic Chairs: Taking the Dabaoli S20 as an example, its locking mechanism is integrated into the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion. The locking steps are as follows: first, pull the control lever outward to release the restriction, lean back to the desired angle, and then push the control lever back into place to complete the locking; to unlock, pull the control lever outward again while applying a slight backward push with your back, and the chair back will return to an upright position. This design achieves precise multi-angle locking through the principle of leverage, suitable for users who need to maintain a specific sitting posture for extended periods.

Wire-Controlled Office Chairs: These utilize electronic or pneumatic control technology, offering more convenient operation. To lock, lean back to the desired position and press the button on the backrest, then lean back slightly; a 'click' sound indicates successful locking; to unlock, repeat the same operation, triggering the internal mechanism to release the chair back via the button. This design eliminates the need for manual adjustment of mechanical components, suitable for users seeking efficient operation.

Computer Chairs: These offer diverse adjustment methods, commonly featuring two modes:

  1. Handle Adjustment Under the Chair Back: After sitting down, locate the adjustment handle at the rear of the seat. Pull the handle while applying slight backward pressure with your back, and release the handle at the desired angle to fix it; to return to an upright position, repeat the pulling operation and apply slight forward pressure.
  2. Button Adjustment at the Front of the Seat Cushion: Press and hold the button while applying backward pressure with your back to adjust the angle, and release to automatically lock. This design achieves angle fixation through spring or pneumatic devices, requiring careful control of force during operation.

Operation Precautions:

  • Ensure the chair is in a stable state before adjustment to avoid accidents caused by sliding.
  • Apply pressure slowly and evenly to prevent mechanism jamming or damage.
  • If adjustment fails, check if the control lever/button is reset, or contact after-sales service for inspection.

Different brands and models may have slight variations in details. It is recommended to refer to the product manual or consult customer service for precise guidance.
