Office Chair Armrest Reupholstering
Reupholstering the armrests of an office chair can be achieved through three methods: using leather repair patches, replacing the chair cover yourself, or having the chair reupholstered. Details are as follows:

Using Leather Repair Patches
If the damaged area on the armrest is small, you can directly use a leather repair patch for repair. These patches do not require glue, have a genuine leather texture, and are less likely to curl up after application. Simply align the patch with the damaged area, peel off the backing, and stick it on to complete the repair. This method is suitable for quickly addressing local damage.
Replacing the Chair Cover Yourself
If you need to replace the entire armrest upholstery, you can cut and replace the chair cover yourself. First, remove the original leather from the chair surface. After removing the old fabric, use a ruler to accurately measure the dimensions of the armrest and cut out the required shape from a new piece of fabric. When cutting, leave a 1-2 centimeter seam allowance to ensure a tight fit after installation. This method is suitable for users with some manual skills and allows for flexible selection of fabric colors and materials.
Reupholstering the Chair
Material Selection:
- PU Synthetic Leather: Affordable and easy to clean and maintain, suitable for daily office use.
- Microfiber Leather: Close in texture to genuine leather, highly wear-resistant, and has a long service life.
- Cotton and Linen Fabric: Breathable, natural, and eco-friendly, suitable for users seeking comfort.
Choose the appropriate material based on the frequency of chair use and personal budget. If the original chair cushion is sagging, it is recommended to replace the cushion simultaneously to enhance comfort.
Operation Process:
- Prepare Tools and Materials: Include new leather (purchase according to chair dimensions and leave a 10% margin), needle-nose pliers, screwdrivers, scissors, utility knives, hot air guns (or high-power hair dryers), spray adhesive or white glue, staple guns (manual or electric), rulers, and pencils.
- Remove Old Leather and Keep Templates: Flip the chair over, remove the screws or non-slip pads from the bottom, and take off the detachable seat cushion. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the staples from the old staple gun, carefully tear off the old leather, and mark the position on the back of each piece. Lay the old leather flat on the new leather and cut out the new leather pieces, enlarging the outline by about 1 centimeter.
- Cover and Edge Finishing: After putting the new leather on the armrest, secure it in sections with special adhesive or a staple gun, stretching from the center outward to avoid wrinkles. Cut notches at the corners of the chair surface to fit the curvature, and use a hot air gun to heat the leather to shrink and tighten it, ensuring the edges are flat and secure.
Pay attention to safety during operation, avoiding cuts from sharp tools and burns from heating the leather. If you are not familiar with the operation process, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for handling.
