Office Chair Armrest Height Adjustment

Admin October 14, 2026

The method for raising the armrests of an office chair depends on its specific function, mainly divided into two cases: adjusting the seat height and adjusting the armrest height.

Armrests for Adjusting Seat Height

If the armrest of an office chair is used to adjust the seat height, the operation is relatively simple. For an office chair with only one armrest for adjusting the seat height, directly lift the armrest upwards while not sitting on the chair to raise the seat height. This design usually uses a gas lift or mechanical structure to achieve height adjustment. When lifting the armrest, the gas lift or mechanical structure releases pressure, causing the seat to rise.

If the office chair is a swivel chair with two armrests, you need to first identify which one is the height adjustment armrest. Generally, the design and operation of the height adjustment armrest are similar to those of a chair with a single armrest. After finding the height adjustment armrest, lift it upwards while not sitting on the chair, and the seat will rise accordingly. During the adjustment process, you can sit down from time to time to check if the seat height is appropriate. If the desired height is not reached, you can get up and adjust it again until you are satisfied.

Armrests for Adjusting Armrest Height

If the armrest of an office chair is used to adjust the armrest height, the operation method varies depending on the type of armrest.

  • Knob-type armrests: These armrests are usually located on the side or bottom of the armrest. When operating, rotate the knob clockwise to gradually raise the armrest; to lower the armrest height, rotate the knob counterclockwise. During rotation, pay attention to applying moderate force to avoid damaging the knob or armrest structure due to excessive force.
  • Button-type armrests: The buttons are generally set on the surface or side of the armrest. When adjusting, first press the button, and then move the armrest up and down simultaneously. After adjusting it to the appropriate height, release the button, and the armrest will be fixed in its current position.
  • Lever-type armrests: The levers are usually hidden inside or on the side of the armrest. When operating, first pull the lever, and the armrest will be in a movable state. After moving the armrest to the desired height, release the lever, and the armrest will be fixed.
