Office Chair Armrest Adjustment Methods

Admin October 10, 2026

The adjustment methods for office chair armrests mainly include the 'Right-Angle Positioning Method' and installation adjustment examples for different models.

'Right-Angle Positioning Method' Adjustment

  • Height Adjustment: First, adjust the seat height so that your feet are flat on the ground and your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle. Sit up straight and let your upper arms hang naturally close to your torso, with your elbows bent at a 90-degree angle. Measure the vertical distance from the tip of your elbow to the seat surface; this is the standard height for the armrests, typically between 20 and 25 centimeters. When adjusting, support the tip of your elbow with your hand and slowly raise or lower the armrests until they can fully support the weight of your arms, and your shoulders do not feel raised or lowered. If the armrests are not adjustable and are too high, you can place a 3- to 5-centimeter-thick cushion on them; if they are too low, you can remove them or place a footrest under the seat to level them.
  • Forward and Backward Adjustment: After adjusting the height of the armrests, push them forward or backward until the bend point of your elbows is in line with the edge of the table. At this point, your forearms can naturally rest on the armrests, and your wrists can lie flat on the table to operate the mouse and keyboard without having to deliberately reach forward or retract. If the armrests cannot be adjusted forward or backward, you can compensate by adjusting the distance between the seat and the table: sit up straight and extend your arms so that your fingertips just touch the edge of the keyboard, which is the appropriate distance.
  • Width Adjustment: When your arms hang naturally, the distance between your elbows is roughly the same as your shoulder width. Adjust the width of the armrests so that the inner sides of the armrests fit snugly against the outer sides of your upper arms, with a gap of no more than 2 centimeters. Being too wide will cause your shoulders to abduct, while being too narrow will restrict movement, both of which can lead to shoulder strain. For people with a larger build, the width of the armrests should be 3 centimeters wider than the shoulder width; for those with a smaller build, armrests with an inward-adjustment function can be chosen.

Installation and Adjustment Examples for Armrests of Different Office Chair Models

  • Chair NB219: Locate the left and right armrests and align them with the holes on both sides of the seat cushion. Be sure to distinguish between the left and right armrests and screw in the 2.5-centimeter hexagon socket screws to secure the left and right armrests.
  • GF - 23(9d Armrest): Use 4 long screws to fix the armrests to the seat cushion. This armrest can be adjusted up and down, rotated 720 degrees with double joints, moved forward and backward, and can also be flipped for adjustment.
