Office Chair Air Pump Replacement
Admin October 11, 2026
The replacement of the air pump for an office chair can be carried out according to the following steps, but it is recommended that a professional perform the operation to ensure safety:

I. Prepare Tools You need to prepare an air pump from a reputable manufacturer (to ensure quality and safety), a screwdriver, and other tools. Non-professional operation poses safety risks, such as the possibility of injury from the airflow impact during deflation, so tool selection should be cautious.
II. Disassemble the Old Chair
- Remove the Seat Cushion: Carefully take off the chair's seat cushion to avoid scratching or damaging the surface material.
- Separate the Mobile Star-shaped Frame: There is usually a plastic cap covering the air needle under the seat cushion. First, separate the mobile star-shaped frame (the bottom support structure of the chair) to expose the position of the air needle.
- Pull off the Plastic Cap: After separating the structure, remove the plastic cap. At this point, the main part of the chair is basically disassembled.
III. Handle the Pneumatic Rod
- Locate the Air Needle: After disassembly, you can see the pneumatic rod (the cylindrical component connecting the chair's seat surface to the base), which has an air needle inside to control the air pressure.
- Deflation Operation: Use a screwdriver to press against the air needle and apply force until you hear a 'popping sound'. Continue pressing until all the gas in the pneumatic rod is released. Key Tip: If the chair no longer leaks air after deflation, it means the fault with the pneumatic rod has been resolved, and there is no need to replace the air pump. If it still leaks, further replacement of the air pump is required.
IV. Replace the Air Pump
- Disassemble the Old Air Pump: The air pump is usually installed between the stainless-steel base and the steel plate under the chair. You need to remove the seat cushion and the mobile star-shaped frame again, pull off the fixed nut, and take out the old pneumatic rod (including the air pump).
- Install the New Air Pump: Align the new air pump and insert it, ensuring a tight connection with the base and the steel plate. Re-fix the nut and assemble the chair.
- Test and Acceptance: After assembly, test the chair's lifting function. If it still leaks air, contact the manufacturer to replace the air pump (it may be a product matching issue).
Safety Precautions
- The installation logic of air pumps varies greatly among different types of chairs (such as gaming chairs and office swivel chairs), so operation should be carried out in accordance with the product design specifications.
- Non-professionals are advised to take the chair to a repair shop or contact a technician for on-site repair (especially for chairs with bulk leaks).
- Wear goggles and gloves during operation to prevent injury from the sudden ejection of the pneumatic rod or the screwdriver slipping.
