Mobile Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 14, 2026

The disassembly of a mobile office chair can be carried out according to the following steps, with tools prepared and safety precautions taken:

1. Tool Preparation and Safety Precautions

  • Tools: A rubber mallet (to avoid damaging the surface with a metal hammer), a Phillips screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, needle-nose pliers or vise-grip pliers. For stubborn components, a pipe wrench (for a stuck gas lift) and lubricant (such as WD-40 or cooking oil for rusted parts) can be prepared. If disassembling the gas lift, it is recommended to use a dedicated gas lift removal tool.
  • Safety Precautions: Wear anti-slip gloves to prevent scratches and, if necessary, safety goggles to prevent small parts from flying. The operating environment should be open, and the chair should be placed on a stable floor or soft mat to prevent tipping or sliding.

2. Separating the Base (Five-Star Foot) from the Gas Lift

  • Steps:
    • Flip the entire chair over so that the five-star foot with wheels is facing up.
    • Observe the connection point between the center of the base and the gas lift, which is usually a tightly inserted structure and cannot be directly pulled out.
    • Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap along the metal base or steel ring at the connection point, avoiding single-point tapping to prevent damage to the base.
    • While tapping, use your hand or foot to assist inๆŽฐๅŠจ (pulling/twisting) or่ธฉไฝ (stepping on) the five-star foot to create a combined force of "tapping and pulling/twisting", repeating the operation until the gas lift is separated.

3. Separating the Seat Cushion (Upper Seat) from the Gas Lift

  • Removing the Base Plate: Use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws of the plastic or metal base plate at the bottom of the seat cushion, and take off the base plate to expose the connection structure, providing a better tapping force point.
  • Separation Methods:
    • Tapping Method: Use a rubber mallet to forcefully tap the metal base at the connection point between the bottom of the seat cushion and the gas lift. Hold the gas lift steady with one hand and tap with the other, or step on the chair to assist in fixing it, using vibration to loosen the two parts.
    • Shaking Method: Raise the gas lift to its highest position, hold the seat cushion with one hand, and press the lifting lever with the other hand to release the lock. At the same time, shake the seat cushion vigorously from side to side several times, using inertia to separate it.

4. Disassembling Other Parts

  • Other parts of the chair (such as armrests and backrests) can usually be disassembled by loosening the screws in the reverse order of installation.
  • Difficulty Handling: The separation of the seat and the gas lift, and the gas lift and the chair foot are common difficulties, requiring a combination of tapping, shaking, or lubrication assistance. If the gas lift is stuck, first fix it with a pipe wrench and then tap it with a rubber mallet; for rusted parts, spray lubricant and let it sit for a while before operating.

Precautions: Avoid excessive force during disassembly to prevent deformation of the parts. If encountering stubborn connections, prioritize using lubrication or dedicated tools instead of violent disassembly. After completion, properly store small parts such as screws to avoid loss.
