Inability to Adjust Office Chair

Admin October 13, 2026

Problems with an office chair that cannot be adjusted may involve issues with the backrest tilt, height adjustment failure, or other adjustment mechanism malfunctions, requiring targeted solutions based on specific manifestations.

Backrest Tilt Adjustment Failure

If the backrest cannot automatically return to its original position or lock, first check the control lever beneath the seat. If the lever has been accidentally pushed into a fixed hole, pull it out to return the backrest to its original position, then reinsert it into the fixed hole to lock the angle. If the chair is equipped with a cable-controlled switch, ensure it is properly turned on and held in position: if the cable is loose, adjust the nut to lengthen the connection distance; if the cable is broken, replace the cable control device; if the cable has become detached from the backrest connection, reattach the terminal. If the cable-controlled switch is functioning normally but the backrest still cannot be adjusted, the small gas cylinder connected to the backrest may be faulty. Gently press the thin end of the gas cylinder; if there is no air pressure support and it can easily retract, the gas cylinder has failed and needs to be replaced.

Height Adjustment Failure

The height adjustment of a pneumatic office chair relies on hand-operated controls (such as a lever or knob). If adjustment is not possible, first confirm the operating method: pull up the lever or turn the knob, trying different lever positions; if unsure, consult the user manual. Maintain the correct posture during adjustment: if adjusting from a standing position, place the front of the chair under your knees, keep your feet flat on the ground, and repeatedly push the lever up and down (pumping) to raise or lower the seat. If the pneumatic rod completely fails (e.g., cannot be raised or lowered or makes unusual noises), it may be due to aging of internal seals or insufficient air pressure, requiring replacement with a pneumatic rod that meets specifications.

Other Adjustment Mechanism Issues

If components such as armrests or lumbar supports do not adjust smoothly, check for loose connections or structural damage. For example, loose armrest fixing screws may cause side-to-side wobbling, requiring tightening of the screws; a broken lumbar support adjustment clip requires replacement of the part. After prolonged use, deformation of the seat cushion, loosening of the mesh fabric, or wear of moving parts may also cause adjustment difficulties. In this case, check the specifications and inspection information of core components (such as the pneumatic rod and chassis) to confirm whether damage is due to overloading. If the chassis is deformed or the pneumatic rod is leaking air, contact a professional repair technician for replacement.

Tip: Before making adjustments, ensure the chair is in a non-loaded state (e.g., adjust the height while standing) to avoid further damage to components from forced operation. If the problem is complex or involves internal structures, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair technician for assistance.
