Hydraulic Office Chair Puncture
Hydraulic office chair puncture incidents are mostly related to the explosions of pneumatic lifting chairs. Due to their working principles, hydraulic chairs are inherently safer than pneumatic chairs, but explosions of pneumatic lifting chairs can have severe consequences.

Typical cases of pneumatic lifting chair explosions include: In 2010, a woman in Xiamen was injured by an exploding lifting chair, with the pneumatic rod inserted into her anus; in 2007, an employee in Zhoushan, Zhejiang had his thigh punctured by fragments, with the cylinder wall thickness being only 1.3mm; in 2009, a teenager in Shandong died after being stabbed in the chest by a pneumatic rod due to insufficient nitrogen purity and seal failure; in 2017, an office chair explosion in Anhui shattered a computer screen 3 meters away, with cracks in the pneumatic rod tube wall. These cases indicate that the core causes of pneumatic lifting chair explosions focus on cylinder structural defects and material issues.
Specific causes include:
- Insufficient nitrogen purity: If the inert gas filled in the pneumatic rod does not meet the purity standards, it may trigger chemical reactions due to high temperatures or pressure changes, leading to a sudden increase in internal pressure.
- Poor cylinder material: If inferior metal is used for the cylinder container wall and the wall thickness is insufficient (e.g., less than 1.5mm), it cannot withstand normal pressure and is prone to rupture.
- Sealing process defects: If the seal is not firmly welded or the sealing ring ages, gas leakage can cause an imbalance in internal pressure, increasing the risk of explosion.
- Insufficient tube wall thickness: If the tube wall of the pneumatic rod is too thin (e.g., the 1.3mm thickness in the case), it is prone to deformation and rupture under repeated lifting or high-temperature conditions.
- Insufficient filling of inert gas: If the gas filling amount is below the standard value, it may lead to unstable lifting of the pneumatic rod and structural fatigue after long-term use.
Preventive measures must be strictly implemented:
- Prioritize brands that have passed international certifications such as BIFMA and SGS to ensure that the cylinder material and process meet safety standards.
- Regularly check the chair for leakage. If oil stains or abnormal noises are found on the surface of the pneumatic rod, stop using it immediately.
- Avoid repeated rapid lifting and lowering to reduce pressure fluctuations inside the cylinder and extend its service life.
- It is strictly prohibited to disassemble the chair by yourself, especially the pneumatic rod part, to prevent damage to the sealing structure or dangerous misoperations.
- Keep away from high-temperature environments (such as radiators and direct sunlight) to prevent the gas inside the cylinder from expanding due to heat and causing excessive pressure.
