How to Recline an Office Chair
The methods for reclining an office chair vary depending on its type and design. Here are some common approaches:

Lever Adjustment System Most office chairs use a lever to control the recline function, typically located on the right or left side beneath the seat. If the chair has a locking feature, first gently pull or push the lever to release the lock, then slowly lean back while adjusting the lever to achieve a comfortable angle for the backrest. After adjusting the angle, operate the lever again to lock the position and ensure safety. Note: Some chairs require continuous pressure on the lever to maintain the recline; releasing it will cause the chair to spring back automatically. It is advisable to read the product instructions before operation to confirm the type of function.
Knob Adjustment System The knob is usually located near the center of the lower part of the seat, close to the support column, and controls the recline resistance through rotation. Turning it clockwise increases the resistance of the backrest, suitable for users who are heavier or need a fixed angle; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, making it easier to recline. Some high-end chairs are equipped with independent knobs to adjust the recline angle and resistance separately. For example, a cylindrical knob on the base can be turned clockwise to enhance the rebound support of the backrest and counterclockwise to make it softer. Adjust gradually to avoid sudden recline due to insufficient resistance.
Pneumatic Adjustment System The pneumatic lever is often integrated with the height adjustment lever, and recline control is achieved by pushing it in different directions. When using, gently pull the lever, lean back to a comfortable angle, and then release it; some chairs will automatically lock. For fine-tuning, repeat pulling the lever and adjusting your posture. Note: The pneumatic system relies on air pressure support, so avoid applying excessive force during adjustment to prevent damage to the internal structure.
Special Operation Design Some office chairs adopt more intuitive operation methods:
- Right-hand handle: Gently pull to unlock the backrest, lean back to a suitable angle, and then release the handle to lock automatically;
- Right-side control lever on the seat cushion: Pull out the control lever to recline freely and push it back to lock the angle; when returning from the lying-flat mode to the working position, pull the control lever outward and apply backward pressure to the back; after the chair is upright, push the control lever back to lock it;
- Segmented adjustment: Some chairs support multiple recline angles, and the gears can be switched by continuously pulling the lever, suitable for users who need to frequently adjust their posture.
Pre-operation Recommendations:
- Confirm the type of chair and its adjustment method to avoid damage caused by misoperation;
- Maintain body balance during adjustment to avoid safety hazards caused by sudden recline;
- If the function is abnormal, refer to the product instructions or contact after-sales service first, and do not disassemble it forcibly.
