How to Prevent Office Chairs from Exploding

Admin October 11, 2026

Preventing office chairs from exploding requires attention to multiple aspects, including selecting qualified components, checking product labels, inspecting explosion-proof steel plates, and paying attention to usage methods.

Selecting Qualified Pneumatic Rods

  • Check Certifications and Stamps: Qualified pneumatic rods will have the manufacturer's trademark and safety certification stamps from international or industry organizations such as SGS and BIFMA clearly stamped on the rod body. Pneumatic rods without any identification, known as "three-no" products, cannot guarantee quality and pose a high safety risk, so they should be avoided at all costs.
  • Pay Attention to Pneumatic Rod Grades: The industry typically classifies pneumatic rods by grades such as "Grade 3" and "Grade 4". Higher grades generally indicate thicker tube walls, stronger pressure-bearing capacity, and longer service life. If budget allows, prioritize products equipped with Grade 4 pneumatic rods, which provide more reliable safety for office chairs.
  • Beware of Unreasonably Low Prices: A qualified lifting chair incurs significant costs just for the high-quality pneumatic rod. Products priced far below those of reputable brands (typically above 200 yuan) are likely to use inferior pneumatic rods, posing explosion risks.

Checking Other Product Labels and Performance

Pay attention to whether the pneumatic rod can smoothly move up and down, which reflects whether the pneumatic rod is working properly. Also, check for labels indicating the manufacturer, production date, quality certificate, factory inspection report, or installation instructions. These labels and documents are important evidence of product quality, ensuring that the product has undergone formal production and inspection processes.

Inspecting Explosion-Proof Steel Plates

According to national standards, effective isolation measures must be installed between the pneumatic rod and the seat surface, and the thickness of the explosion-proof isolation steel plate must not be less than two millimeters. Installing a whole steel plate under the chair seat can further protect against accidental explosions of the screw rod and the end plug of the outer steel tube of the pneumatic rod, greatly increasing product safety. When purchasing an office chair, carefully check whether a compliant explosion-proof steel plate is installed.

Paying Attention to Usage Methods

When using the chair, it is best not to repeatedly lift and lower it. Frequent lifting and lowering operations may accelerate wear on the pneumatic rod, increasing the risk of explosion. After a period of use, have it inspected by a professional in a timely manner. If any cracks or signs of looseness are found, repair or replace it promptly to ensure the office chair remains in a safe and reliable condition for use.
