How to Open an Office Chair

Admin October 19, 2026

Opening an office chair typically involves adjusting components such as the backrest, seat height, and small table (if equipped). Here are the specific operation methods:

Adjusting the backrest is one of the common ways to 'open' an office chair. For most office chairs, the backrest adjustment is achieved through a handle or a locking knob. If it is adjusted by a handle, the user needs to first sit on the office chair, find the adjustment handle located below or on the side of the seat, pull the handle, and then lean back slightly with the back. At this time, the backrest will tilt backward along with the back movement. When the desired angle is reached, release the handle, and the backrest will be fixed at that angle. If you want to return the backrest to an upright position, continue pulling the handle and apply a little force with your back, and the backrest will spring back under the action of the spring. Some office chairs have their backrests adjusted by a locking knob. The user only needs to rotate this knob to unlock the backrest and then adjust the backrest angle according to their own needs. After adjustment, tighten the knob to fix the backrest.

Adjusting the seat height is also part of the 'opening' operation of an office chair. If the office chair uses a pneumatic rod for adjustment, the user pulls the handle below the seat upward while sitting down and uses their own weight to unlock the pneumatic rod, lowering the seat height. To raise the seat, pull the handle upward without sitting on it, and the seat will rise under the action of the pneumatic rod. When the seat reaches the desired height, release the handle. Some office chairs adjust the seat height through a knob. The user only needs to rotate the knob located below or on the side of the seat until the seat reaches the desired height.

If the office chair is equipped with a small table, adjusting the small table can also be regarded as a kind of 'opening' operation. Usually, there is a cover on the armrest on the right side or in front of the seat. The user manually opens this cover. After opening it, they can generally see a small table made of metal or other materials. Pull it upward and then rotate the buckle to fix the small table in a suitable position, which is convenient for the user to place items or perform office operations.
