How to Assemble an Office Chair

Admin October 22, 2026

The steps for assembling an office chair are as follows:

Step 1: Install the casters and gas lift Install each caster onto the chair base one by one, ensuring that each caster is firmly connected to the base to prevent looseness. After installation, place the gas lift vertically into the center of the chair base, making sure that the gas lift is aligned with the central hole of the base to provide stable support for subsequent installation. The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the seat height, so it should be kept vertical during installation to avoid abnormal use due to tilting.

Step 2: Secure the base plate and seat Use screws to fix the base plate to the seat. Pay attention to the orientation of the base plate (usually, there are markings or grooves on the base plate indicating the installation direction). After aligning the screw holes of the seat and the base plate, first screw each screw in 3 - 4 turns to ensure that all screws are initially fixed, and then tighten them one by one. Avoid applying excessive force on one side in this step to prevent uneven connection between the base plate and the seat, which may affect subsequent use.

Step 3: Connect the backrest and seat Depending on the design of the backrest, the installation method may vary slightly:

  • If the backrest is integrated with the armrest bracket, first use screws to fix the bottom of the backrest from the bottom of the armrest bracket, and then align the back of the backrest with the mounting holes of the seat bracket. Use two wrenches to lock the screws in place (i.e., one wrench holds the nut, and the other wrench tightens the screw).
  • If the backrest is independent, directly align the backrest with the mounting holes of the seat bracket and fix it with screws. Ensure that the backrest is firmly connected to the seat to prevent shaking.

Step 4: Install the base Vertically insert the assembled seat part (including the backrest) into the top of the gas lift, ensuring sufficient insertion depth and a tight connection. After insertion, gently press down on the seat to test whether the height adjustment function of the gas lift is normal, and at the same time, check whether the seat is perpendicular to the gas lift to avoid instability during use due to tilting.

Step 5: Install the armrests and headrest

  • Armrest installation: Press the button below the armrest surface (some models have no button and can be inserted directly), and insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively. A clicking sound or increased resistance indicates that the installation is in place.
  • Headrest installation: Place the headrest in the middle of the top of the backrest, press the installation part of the headrest to make it fit more closely with the backrest, and fix the headrest with screws through the headrest fixing clips (some models are clip-on and do not require screws). After installation, adjust the angle of the headrest to ensure it conforms to ergonomics.

Precautions: Different models of office chairs may have differences in screw specifications (such as No. 3 screws, B/C/D/E specification screws) and installation details. Read the instruction manual carefully before assembly to avoid incorrect installation. If the screw holes are misaligned or the components are loose, recheck the steps and do not force the assembly.
