Fishing Net Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The 'Hafu' office chair is made from discarded fishing nets, representing Sunon Technology's commitment to sustainable development.

Background and Material Innovation

The birth of the Hafu chair stems from the R&D team's concern over marine pollution. The large amount of discarded fishing nets generated by fishermen's operations is difficult to degrade and has become a persistent problem for the marine ecosystem. Through in-depth collaboration with Swiss studio B4K, Sunon has overcome the challenge of applying marine recycled plastic materials in the furniture industry, transforming marine waste into high-quality base materials for office furniture and achieving a combination of material innovation and environmental protection concepts.

Environmental Value and Transportation Optimization

The green value of this chair is not only reflected in its raw materials. Its foldable backrest design reduces the volume of transportation packaging, increasing the number of units that can be loaded into containers by more than double and directly reducing carbon emissions by 25%. If production reaches a scale of 5,000 chairs per year, it can reduce nearly 15 tons of marine waste annually, further highlighting its contribution to environmental protection.

Exhibition Performance and User Experience

At the 53rd China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) Office Commercial Exhibition held in Guangzhou from March 28 to 31, 2025, Sunon showcased its products in an 'oxygen forest' setting at its exhibition booth. The Hafu chair attracted a large number of visitors with its high aesthetic appeal and technological sophistication. The marine recycled plastic material used is not only environmentally friendly but also provides a comfortable sitting experience, excellent lumbar support, and features a self-weight tilting function that allows for posture changes without manual adjustment, enhancing the user experience.

Comprehensive Evaluation

The Hafu chair demonstrates the potential of office furniture in the field of sustainable development through innovative material applications, optimized design, and environmental practices. It not only addresses the issue of marine pollution but also reduces transportation carbon emissions through design optimization while providing a comfortable user experience, making it a model of combining environmental protection with functionality.
