Cleaning Office Chair Wheels

Admin October 13, 2026

The method for cleaning office chair wheels can be divided into four steps: disassembly, pretreatment, wiping, and drying and reassembly. The specific operations are as follows:

1. Disassemble the Wheels

  • Snap-fit type: Gently pull the wheel sideways while holding it to avoid deforming the wheel frame due to excessive force.
  • Screw-fixed type: Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the fixing screws. If the screws are rusty, a small amount of lubricating oil can be applied to assist in disassembly.
  • Clip-design type: Hold the wheel bracket with your hand and pull it outward. If it is tightly clipped, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the clip to prevent scratching the bracket.

2. Pretreat the Dirt in the Gaps

  • Hair and fiber removal: Use tweezers or the tip of an old toothbrush to pick out tangled hair and carpet fibers from the side. Operate in the direction of wheel rotation to avoid tightening the entanglement.
  • Stubborn stain softening: Dip a small amount of warm water mixed with dishwashing liquid, wrap the wheel with an old cloth, and rub it for 1 minute to soften dirt, chocolate stains, or fruit juice stains before further treatment.

3. Thoroughly Wipe Each Part

  • Wheel body and spokes: Use a soft sponge dipped in a neutral detergent solution (avoid strong alkaline detergents) to carefully wipe the surface. For the narrow gaps in the spokes, use an old toothbrush to sweep away residual dust.
  • Bearing part: Wipe off the loose dirt with a dry cloth and avoid getting it wet. If the bearing is stuck, apply 1 drop of sewing machine oil and gently rotate the wheel to allow the dirt to be expelled with the oil.
  • Rinsing and drying: Rinse the wheel body with clean water (avoid the bearings), and wipe off the moisture with a dry cloth to prevent the residual detergent from corroding the material.

4. Dry and Reassemble

  • Thoroughly dry: Place the wheels in a well-ventilated area for 5-10 minutes to ensure that the bearing part is completely dry and avoid rusting.
  • Lubrication and installation: Apply 1-2 drops of special lubricating oil for office equipment (do not use cooking oil) to the bearings, and rotate the wheels to evenly distribute the oil. Align the wheels with the bracket clips and gently push them in until a "click" sound is heard to confirm that they are securely installed.
  • Test smoothness: Turn the office chair upright and push it to test if the wheels rotate smoothly. If there is still stuttering, check for any remaining debris.

Daily maintenance advice:

  • Disassemble and clean the wheels every 1 month to reduce dirt accumulation in the gaps and delay bearing wear.
  • Avoid using steel wool or hard-bristled brushes to prevent scratching the plastic surface or damaging the anti-fouling layer.
  • If you want to reduce the cleaning frequency, you can stick invisible tape on the wheels (the tape should be of appropriate width and moderate stickiness). After tearing it off, there is almost no sticky residue, and the wrinkled design can prevent the wheels from being too slippery.
