White Office Chair Renovation

Admin October 09, 2026

The renovation of a white office chair can be carried out according to the following steps, and appropriate methods should be selected based on the material and structure:

1. Removing Old Fabric and Cleaning If the chair's surface fabric needs to be replaced, first remove the old fabric. Use tailor's scissors or specialized tools to peel off the old fabric along the edges, and at the same time, use a staple remover to clear away any remaining staples to avoid scratching your hands or interfering with subsequent operations. If the chair's frame requires treatment (such as painting or repair), it is advisable to first remove soft parts like the seat cushion and backrest to thoroughly clean the surface of dirt, dust, or old paint. Be sure to retain reusable accessories (such as screws and buckles) and mark their positions for easy reinstallation later. If the chair has a leather surface or a complex structure (such as a pneumatic rod or a rotating base), proceed with caution to avoid damaging internal components.

2. Frame Repair and Sanding For wooden or metal frames, check the structural stability. If the chair legs are loose or the joints are cracked, wooden frames can be reinforced with woodworking glue, while metal frames require the use of metal corner braces or professional reinforcement parts for repair. If the damage is severe (such as in the case of precious materials like rosewood), it is recommended to contact a professional craftsman. After repair, sand the frame surface with 240-grit sandpaper, especially the parts to be painted. Sand along the wood grain direction to remove burrs and old paint layers, making the surface flat and smooth for better paint adhesion. Metal frames need to be derusted first and then sanded until a metallic luster is revealed.

3. Painting or Reupholstering

  • Painting: Choose an environmentally friendly wood paint (such as water-based paint or Sanqing paint) and adjust the color according to your needs. Apply thin coats with a roller or brush in 2-3 layers, with an interval of 2-3 hours between each layer to ensure an even paint layer without runs. Use a small brush to touch up gaps or details, and finally, lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper to enhance the gloss. When spray painting, maintain a distance of 20-30 centimeters and spray in multiple layers to avoid paint layer cracking due to excessive thickness.
  • Reupholstering: Select a wear-resistant fabric (such as tech fabric or canvas). When cutting, make the fabric about 5 centimeters larger than the frame size to leave a fixing edge. Cover the frame with the fabric, pull it tight from the center to the sides, and fix it every 3 centimeters with a pneumatic staple gun or manual U-shaped staples to ensure the fabric is flat and wrinkle-free. If the fabric needs to be pieced together, use a sewing machine to overlock the edges to prevent fraying.

4. Ventilation, Drying, and Inspection After renovation, allow the chair to ventilate and dry for more than 24 hours before use to ensure that the paint or glue smell has completely dissipated. When reinstalling soft parts, check whether complex structures like the pneumatic rod and rotating base are stable to avoid safety hazards. If the chair has a genuine leather surface or involves precision machinery, it is advisable to consult professional repair personnel first to avoid further damage due to improper operation.
