Uneven Height of Office Chair on Both Sides

Admin October 08, 2026

The uneven height of an office chair on both sides may be caused by various factors such as chair design, quality issues, component damage, or uneven ground. This can be resolved by inspecting components, adjusting functions, or performing repairs and replacements.

Chair Design Factors

Generally, few computer chairs have the function to adjust the height on both sides, depending on the brand's design configuration. If the chair itself lacks the ability to adjust the height on both sides and there is a significant height difference, it is likely due to quality issues or deviations during the manufacturing and assembly process. In this case, it is recommended to contact after-sales service for assistance. Some swivel chairs have two adjustment parts: one for vertical adjustment and another, if equipped with wheel adjustment functionality, can be used to attempt adjusting the height on both sides. However, this wheel adjustment function is not available on all swivel chairs, and the adjustment range and effectiveness vary by product.

Component Damage Issues

  • Uneven Wheels: This may be due to an uneven ground surface. Over long-term use, the wheels may experience uneven pressure, leading to varying degrees of wear. All casters can be removed and inspected for completeness, and those with severe wear should be replaced.
  • Bent or Deformed Wheel Legs: The chair may have been subjected to significant external impact, causing the wheel legs to bend or deform. Carefully inspect the wheel legs, and if the deformation is severe, replacement may be necessary.
  • Damaged Seat Plate: If the internal support structure of the seat plate is broken or deformed, the seat plate may not remain level. Remove the seat cushion and observe the metal chassis seams. If the chassis is slightly deformed, it can be corrected by tapping with a rubber mallet; if severely deformed, it is recommended to replace the entire chassis assembly.

Ground Factors

An uneven ground surface where the chair is placed may also cause the office chair to have uneven height on both sides. In this case, check if the chair is on a level surface and move it to a flat area to see if the height difference disappears.

Adjustment Function Failure

If the chair has a height adjustment function that is not working, locate the dust cover at the bottom of the gas lift cylinder and gently pry open the protective cover with a flat-head screwdriver to expose the internal adjustment mechanism for adjustment. If the gas lift cylinder is tilted, it requires special attention and repair.
