Drawing an Office Chair in UG
Admin October 12, 2026
When drawing an office chair in UG, you can refer to the modeling ideas of petal chairs and bench chairs. The specific steps are as follows:

Chair Seat Cushion
- Petal-style Seat Cushion: First, draw a straight line in the sketch. Rotate it into a flared sheet using the rotation command, and then convert the sheet into a solid using the thicken command. Next, create a cushion sketch on the XY plane and trim the rotated sheet using the trim command. Array the trimmed sheet circularly around the Y-axis, connect the trimmed sheet and the arrayed sheet using the curve group command, and stitch them into a petal solid. Round off the petal edges fully, then move it by a small angle and array it circularly around the rotation center again. Finally, offset the length of the flared opening and round off the edges to complete the chair seat cushion part.
- Bench-style Seat Cushion: Open the UG software, create a new blank model file, and save it. Execute the [Menu - Insert - Design Features - Block] command, specify the origin as the reference point, set the length, width, and height dimensions, and click OK to create the basic part of the bench seat. Then execute the [Menu - Insert - Associative Copy - Pattern Feature] command, select the block, and use a linear layout to pattern it, increasing the length of the seat.
Chair Support
- Petal Chair Legs: Draw a trapezoidal prism and use its edges to create cylinders as the legs. Draw straight lines between the legs and use the pipe command to generate connecting parts, enhancing the stability of the chair.
- Bench Support Structure: Click the extrude command to enter the sketch, draw a rectangle and annotate its dimensions. Exit the sketch and set the limit Boolean union to construct the support structure for the bench seat.
Chair Backrest
- Bench Backrest: Click the extrude command to enter the sketch, draw a right-angled trapezoid, add geometric constraints, and annotate its dimensions. Exit the sketch and set the limit Boolean none to create the basic shape of the bench backrest. Then execute the [More - Mirror Feature] command, select the backrest feature, specify the middle plane, and click OK to complete the symmetrical creation of the backrest.
Merging and Detail Processing
- Merge all the created parts, such as the seat cushion, support structure, and backrest, using the merge command. Select all solids and click OK to combine them into a single entity.
- For petal chairs, no additional leg support details are needed; for benches, click the extrude command to enter the sketch, draw four squares and annotate their dimensions. Exit the sketch and set the limit Boolean union to add leg support details to the bench. Then click the extrude command to enter the sketch again, draw two rectangles, exit the sketch, and set the limit Boolean union toๅฎๅ (improve) the bench leg structure. Finally, you can perform rendering as needed, hide the datum coordinate system, set the display to shading, and execute operations such as Render - Advanced Artistic Appearance - Material Texture - Wood Grain to make the office chair more realistic.
