The Office Chair is Very Short
Admin October 08, 2026
The solutions for a very short office chair should be selected based on the type of chair, as follows:

I. Adjustable Height Office Chairs
If the chair is equipped with a gas lift or mechanical height adjustment mechanism, prioritize using the adjustment function to solve the issue:
Regular Adjustment Methods:
- Raising the Height: Leave the chair or lift your body, and pull up the operating lever (handle) beneath the seat. The gas lift will release pressure, causing the seat to rise.
- Lowering the Height: Sit on the chair and pull down the operating lever. The gas lift will compress, causing the seat to descend.
Common Fault Handling:
- Sinking When Seated: This may be due to a leaking gas lift or a malfunctioning locking mechanism. Replace the gas lift with a new one (choose a model that meets safety standards), or check if the locking mechanism is stuck and adjust it accordingly.
- Unable to Adjust Height: This may be caused by loose connections or a blocked gas lift. Tighten the screws and bolts at the connection between the seat and the gas lift, or contact a professional to inspect and repair the gas lift.
Emergency Fixing Method (applicable when you temporarily do not want to replace the gas lift):
- Remove the fixing ring at the bottom of the seat, find a section of PPR pipe with an inner diameter that matches the gas lift (choose the height according to your needs), and place it over the gas lift as support. Then, reinstall the fixing ring. Note: This method will permanently disable the chair's adjustment function and should only be used as a temporary solution.
II. Non-Adjustable Chairs (such as wooden chairs, dining chairs, and ordinary metal-framed chairs)
If the chair does not have height adjustment capabilities, you can improve its height through the following methods:
Using Specialized Height Increase Pads:
- Purchase rubber or plastic chair leg height increase pads and directly place them over or stick them to the bottom of the chair legs. These pads can stably raise the chair by 2-5 centimeters and have anti-slip and noise-reducing functions, suitable for short-term use.
Making Your Own Height Increase Device:
- Use materials such as wooden blocks or thick fabric wrappings, cut them to match the size of the chair legs, and secure them to the chair legs with ropes. Ensure that the height increase device is firmly and stably fixed to prevent the chair from tipping over due to a shift in the center of gravity.
Using Auxiliary Tools to Improve Posture:
- Placing Cushions or Backrests: Adding soft cushions or backrests to the seat can indirectly increase the height and improve comfort.
- Using Footrests or Low Stools: Place a footrest or low stool under your feet to keep your legs in a naturally hanging position and relieve pressure on your waist.
- Adjusting the Height of Desktop Items: Reduce discomfort caused by a low chair by raising items such as keyboards and monitors.
Replacing or Requesting Repairs:
- If the above methods are ineffective or affect safety, consider replacing the chair with one that has adjustable height.
- If the chair is provided by your workplace, you can request a replacement or repair from the logistics department to ensure it meets ergonomic requirements.
