The Office Chair is Too Low

Admin October 08, 2026

If the office chair is too low, the following solutions can be adopted, and an appropriate solution should be selected according to the type of chair:

I. Modern Adjustable Chairs (Including Ergonomic Chairs and Gaming Chairs)

  1. Regular Adjustment: Locate the operating lever (handle) beneath the seat. To raise the chair, leave the chair or lift your body and pull the lever upward. To lower the chair, sit on it and push the lever downward. If the chair sinks when you sit on it or the lever cannot be moved to raise the chair, troubleshoot the issue:

    • Pneumatic Rod Failure: A leaking or aging pneumatic rod may not be able to provide support. Replace it with a new, compatible pneumatic rod (pay attention to the load-bearing and pipe diameter parameters). Release the seat pressure before installation to avoid injury from popping.
    • Locking Mechanism Problem: Check if the locking device at the bottom of the chair is loose or damaged. Adjust or replace the components and then test the stability.
    • Loose Connectors: Tighten all screws and bolts to ensure a firm connection between the chair legs and the pneumatic rod.
    • Emergency Fix: If you do not replace the pneumatic rod temporarily, remove the fixing ring, place a PPR pipe of an appropriate height over the pneumatic rod as support, and then reinstall the ring (after this, the chair can no longer be adjusted in height).
  2. Electric Adjustment: Some electric office chairs automatically adjust the height through side buttons (marked with up and down arrows). If the buttons do not work, check the power supply or contact after-sales service for repair.

II. Chairs with Non-adjustable Height (Such as Wooden Chairs, Dining Chairs, and Ordinary Metal-framed Chairs)

  1. Use Height-increasing Accessories:

    • Purchase rubber or plastic chair leg height-increasing pads and directly place or stick them at the bottom of the chair legs. They can stably raise the chair by 2-5 cm and also have anti-slip and noise-reducing functions.
    • If the chair has no adjustment function, place wooden boards or rubber pads (the thickness is recommended to be no more than 5 cm) under the chair legs. Ensure that the pads are flat and stable to avoid tipping over.
  2. Use Auxiliary Tools to Improve Sitting Posture:

    • Place seat cushions or backrests to increase the seat height and improve comfort at the same time.
    • Use footrests or low stools to support your feet and keep your thighs parallel to the ground.
    • Adjust the height of items on the desk (such as raising the keyboard and monitor) to keep your line of sight at an appropriate angle with the screen.
  3. Replacement or Repair:

    • If the above methods are not effective or affect safety, contact a furniture repair shop to retrofit an adjustment device or directly replace the chair with a new one that meets the height requirements.
    • For ordinary metal-framed chairs, you can apply to the unit for replacement or repair.

III. Handling of Special Cases

  • Old-style Fixed-height Chairs: If the chair has no adjustment function and cannot be raised, contact a professional repair shop to install a lifting device or replace it with a modern adjustable chair.
  • Safety Tips: Regardless of the method used, after adjustment, ensure that your feet are flat on the ground and your thighs are parallel to the ground to avoid excessive pressure on the lumbar or cervical spine due to improper height. Avoid violent adjustment during operation to prevent damage to components or personal injury.
