This is an improvement over hot-melt adhesive edge banding; while somewhat more efficient, it still uses hot-melt adhesives and bonding agents containing volatile harmful substances.
3. Laser edge banding: Requires a laser edge-banding machine and laser edge band, where the band carries a special polymer coating. Throughout the process, the machine's high-energy laser beam quickly melts the coating on the band, and then a series of high-precision instruments complete the subsequent steps โ cutting, initial trimming, fine trimming, rounding, and so on โ achieving seamless, trace-free edges. No glue, no odor, higher bond strength, easy to clean and maintain, thereby extending the furniture's service life.
In terms of product quality, aesthetics, service life, and user experience, laser edge banding has clear advantages. But laser edge banding requires imported large-scale equipment, and its operating costs and process standards are higher than traditional edge-banding technology, so many small furniture brands usually cannot adopt this leading technology. Even among brands with some reputation, differences in equipment and processes, variations in manufacturing scale, and inconsistent quality of edge bands cause laser edge banding to produce different results on their furniture.
So how should you take this into account when buying office furniture? A reminder: during the purchase, be sure to ask the manufacturer for samples. If you find the edges uneven, the seams obvious, the color inconsistent, or residual glue present, then no matter how lavishly the brand talks up its products, don't blindly believe it.
