The Disadvantages of Office Chairs by the Window
Admin October 10, 2026
There are indeed many unfavorable factors when office chairs are placed by the window, as follows:

Impact on Actual Work
- Distraction: When the seat is backed against the window, the lack of a solid support behind can make one feel psychologically insecure and unstable in terms of energy. The outdoor light changes over time, with varying intensities, which can easily cause visual fatigue. Outdoor noises, such as car horns and pedestrian conversations, continuously enter the ears. The glances of passersby may also inadvertently sweep into the room. All these factors can distract the mind, making it difficult to concentrate on handling important tasks.
- Health Risks: Glass cannot effectively block 90% of long-wave ultraviolet rays. If an office chair is placed by the window for a long time and a person is exposed to direct sunlight every day, it may lead to uneven exposure of ultraviolet rays to the left and right sides of the face, resulting in different aging speeds of the two sides. Moreover, when sunlight directly hits the computer screen, it can cause glare, affecting the normal viewing of screen content, increasing eye fatigue, and potentially causing damage to vision in the long run.
- Attention Diversion: Dynamic scenes outside the window, such as the movement of people and the driving of vehicles, can attract one's attention, causing one to unconsciously look out the window, thus diverting the attention that should be focused on work and reducing work efficiency.
Impact from Feng Shui
- Interference from Formidable Shapes: If the window faces a road, a crossroads, or the sharp corner of a building, external formidable shapes can directly hit the seat through the window. From the perspective of Feng Shui, this can cause significant emotional fluctuations in a person, making it difficult to remain calm and rational when facing work and making decisions. It is prone to inaccurate judgments and may also create opportunities for villains, affecting career development.
- Damage to Status: When the seat is tightly against the window, especially when there is a glass curtain wall behind, it can give a person a feeling of being "empty and unreal." In Feng Shui beliefs, this situation can easily lead to a person being looked down upon by colleagues at work, with their opinions being difficult to be accepted and their contributions being easily claimed by others. It is not conducive to personal development and status enhancement in the workplace.
