Construction Method of Teacher's Office Chair
Admin October 09, 2026
To make a teacher's office chair, you can refer to the construction method of wooden office chairs or general self-made methods. Here are the specific steps:

Construction Method of Wooden Office Chairs
- Gather materials: Prepare 2x2 wooden strips, 1x4 wooden strips, 1.5-inch plywood, 1/4-inch wedge-shaped wooden strips, woodworking glue, 2.5-inch deck screws, double-ended screws, a drill with a 1/4-inch drill bit, a jigsaw, and a circular saw.
- Cut components: Cut two pieces of 2x2 material to 16.5 inches in length, two 37-inch-long 2x2 segments, two 14-inch 1x4 wooden boards, and one 14-inch-long 1x4 wooden board split into two long strips along its length.
- Assemble the sides: Drill half-depth 1/4-inch holes at specific positions on the 16.5-inch posts. Cut holes with the same spacing at the ends of the 1x4 boards. Drill corresponding holes at the bottom of the 37-inch posts. Apply glue and insert tenons to assemble the two sides of the chair. Align the side panels with the tops of the short posts and secure the 1x4 split pieces with deck screws.
- Prepare for connection: Cut the 1x4 wooden boards. Cut a 17x17-inch square piece of plywood for the seat. Cut notches at the corners of the wooden boards. Drill 1/4-inch holes in the 1x4 wooden boards. Mark and drill tenon holes for the seat piece. Drill center pilot holes at specific positions on the short and long posts.
- Repair the chair back: Apply glue to the ends of three 1x4 wooden boards. Insert tenons and embed them in the chair back. Wait for the glue to dry.
- Insert the backrest/seat combination: Apply glue and secure the seat to the side pieces. Embed the backrest posts into the notches and secure them with deck screws.
- Secure components: Glue and secure the apron. Insert deck screws. Use corner braces to reinforce the connections if necessary.
- Sand the surface: Sand the surface of the chair to prepare it for staining or painting. You can also round off the edges.
- Paint the wood: Complete the surface treatment.
Key Points of General Self-Made Methods
- Material selection: Use wood for the frame, metal for the chair frame, and plastic and fabric for the seat cushion and backrest.
- Material processing: Cut, sand, and paint the wood. Cut, bend, and weld the metal parts into shape.
- Assembly and connection: Firmly connect the seat, backrest, and chair legs. Install adjusters.
- Surface treatment: Polish and paint the wood. Apply coatings to the metal parts. Neaten and clean the fabric.
- Quality inspection: Check the stability, appearance quality, and functionality of the adjustable parts. When making, pay attention to measuring dimensions, choosing appropriate tools, ensuring safety, and considering ergonomics.
